You take a moment to check on Willard, and your cat. They are both on their way back to the bunker, taking separate paths, and should be arriving not too far from now.

You start to check on Macland, as you're not sure if your thought chaining effect involved him or not. He's... uh... doing something you'd prefer not to interrupt (and would like to unsee). You're going to mark him down as "doing okay."

You check on Red.

She confirms that she's doing alright--a little out of it, but alright. She explains that you consciously acknowledging yourself as the blood isn't quite the same as simply giving your alien instincts the reins; though this was confusing at times, to be sure, it wasn't as exhausting for the other side of your mind.

You notice she's talking differently. You ask if that's an issue...?

"Oh, uh," she pauses, shaking her head. She seems to catch herself. "Yeah. You're starting to think of us less as distinct individuals. I think that should lead to me eventually fading into your mind, but you've also done so much to treat me like an individual, I don't know what's going to happen. I'm you, but I'm an aspect of you you're steadily coming to terms with. ...But you also don't want to let your idea of me go, because we're a sentimental weirdo. You'll figure it out."

You step out of your mindscape.

"See? Told ya," Caius says.

Pierce breathes a small sigh of relief.

Fuse grins. "We had to explain to Pierce that you just... space out sometimes."

You confirm to Pierce that it is, in fact, just a thing you do. You also ask about the cultist that sacrificed himself so you all could escape--the one that made a last stand against the cops.

"Bet," replies Pierce. "He wished to be involved with something bigger than himself. I never saw him as impulsive, but... perhaps this was what he sought."

You also ask Fuse about signal jammers--if something could be built that blocks out, say, the signals between Carpenter and his robots.

"It'd have to be area-based," Fuse replies. "Like, something you set near where you want the signal blocked... but yeah, I should able to whip up some kind of local scrambler. ...Maybe. Probably. I don't know what sort of signal Carpenter uses, so I'd need to cast a wide net--it'll screw up cell phones, GPS, and everything else in its radius.

Which reminds me--me and Lydia were talking, and we might've figured something out. That warehouse hooked to the cold storage, right? GPS didn't work there, but we still got a long range camera signal from there. That means the place is specifically blocking GPS signals, maybe similar lines, but it's not blocking everything. There might be a way to decode the signal from our digital camera to figure out what coordinates it's generating from, I just need to figure out how. Lydia had a plan, but it's... sort of insane? Like, she thinks we can straight up hack a satellite--"

Michelle steps out of the infirmary, and Fuse pauses.

"Oh, shiiit," Caius exclaims, "ya got rid of it!"

Michelle restrains a grin, slightly embarrassed. "Yeah, I thought the burn marks were cool for a while, but then I thought about that asshole Knox and figured... nah, let's ditch the scarring. Hell, y'all have never seen me like this, have you?"

"Nah," Fuse replies. "You had that mark since before I met you. You got it during the Tobu hack, right?"

Michelle nods, smiling again. "Yeah, back at the hospital. I got enough to remember that by already, though."

nobody is dying or freaking out so go take the time to fix yourself properly.

aw miiiish. look at you all fresh-faced and cool, good job. <3

who's next in to see the doc, then? pierce should be fine aside from being a little sore, i think, and we can help him out with that, so i guess it's jane's turn. we should ask pierce first though. then i guess, direct everyone to the shower and also the bunks if they wanna take a load off? once we're done here mav can probably borrow some clothes that aren't full of holes from jane if she wants. we're going to have to probably either spend the night here as a group or leave our refugees here, since there's not really room for four other people in bunker A.

Let's fix our eye! We need a new one, whether we print it or grow it ourselves. Chat with the others, while we're at it. Bonding time!

Oh, hey, I was re-reading BiM maybe a month ago, taking notes as I went along. One of these things that I found interesting way back when, was from Page 188, where Grizwald says "[The tinfoil hat] keeps th' satellites from readin' muh thoughts. The contracts are all expired, but somebody could buy 'em up any day now."

We have to ask Lydia for more information! Find out who (if anybody) owns it, and ask her to elaborate on her plan!

Digging up some real old receipts, here.

I second asking Lydia for more information about the satellites, or Grizwald, whichever is most easily reached. We should probably fix our eye and get Dr. Finch to look over our brain repairs first, though.

We regrew brain, we should be skilled enough to be able to regrow a relatively simple eye now. Also, with red apparently able to tap into... well... is... the blood. Maybe rather than syncing or retreating into the blood to do it, maybe we could somehow just... have red walk us through it?

And non-joking aside, after we get good at this, maybe we should work on developing some extendable bone claws and get some yellow spandex?

If there still are Z50 satellites in orbit, their communication protocols would be 50 years old.
They should be either hackable or possible to find on the interwebs

Heh, good to hear.

Anyways, try to puzzle out where you could get a mortar and pestle. Also need a large bowl and a scalpel/sharp clean tool, but those should be easier to find.

Something to think about while you go about your business, hmm?

Mind enlightening the rest of us as to what we're supposed to do with all that? XD

A bit of alchemy, a bit of testing out the bloods capabilities.
Testing the waters for a branch of blood animation other than turning bits of debris and electronics into a golem.

Cheap and dirty. Feed it with a car battery run to a boost (buck/boost) circuit using an ignition coil to get some serious voltage and make a nice dirty spark transmitter. Nothing radio related will work. If it can draw from the wireless grid then even longer run time. Getting 30 minutes would be killer if we need it.

Something more percise and less of a complete blanket would be pretty handy too.
Blue_Elite 14th Mar 2018, 11:40 PM edit delete reply
I CONSTANTLY forget about the whole wireless-power-thing this world has going on.

I'd like to put in a vote that when/if we externalize Red, we go the extra mile and give her a form that's huggable (even if it's only a part of something much larger, like Bab' Red).

As much as I love that Jane looks like she's constantly winking at everyone, we should get that eye replaced and brain checked out (I'm assuming given order of severity we're next and Pierce is last).
If Pierce is before us, he shouldn't be long - let's decide on what to do about lunch/dinner (whatever time it is).

Also... thought....

we keep using blood syringes, but honestly, that's got to at least be a little draining... could we externalize not the whole red... not even our own baby red... but just like... a living skin ball with some marrow and blood in it? Something that could probably just feed off of floating in some sugar water, and we could draw our blood from it? It'd cut down on the needle poking and potentially increase our supply since judging from the city escape, we're going to need a LOT more.
skybirds15 15th Mar 2018, 2:08 AM edit delete reply
Possible, but drawing from the red for specifics like that gets rather complicated, as shown by that extra ear we had until recently. (we didn't get thrown off balance by losing that? Weird) It's possible, though blood generation and keeping the thing alive would probably requires a lot more calories and effort than just using us.
Blue_Elite 15th Mar 2018, 3:00 AM edit delete reply
We had the extra ears for only a few days (about as long as we've known Caius). I'm surprised we had as good of balance as we did with them.

Probably we just didn't make the whole ear... so eardrum and hairs, but maybe not the whole human fluid balance mechanism.

That said, we DO need practice externalizing red.

... thought...

what if instead of externalizing matter, we externalized energy... like instead of bringing body parts, brought over something much more manageable, and just allowed transfer of the bodyheat? That might be an easier practicing method, and would let us survive in the cold easier. And bodyheat with allowing blood to pump through back and forth between our body and the red more directly (if it doesn't do that already)... if we could pull simply that off, we could likely walk on the surface of mars without the need for a space suit, freeing one up to bring along another person.

Wait, weren't there other churches to Enyo? Should probably ask our two former churchees about those. Or at least the voluminous greaseball at the top.
Memo 15th Mar 2018, 2:24 AM edit delete reply
We should ask pierce if he need to be doctored, the have our brain checked out.
We might be missing something important, and not know it.
And let's try to grow the eye, using printed materials, it should be good practice.
