You tell your old body to draw her gun, and fire a few last shots at the Many as she walks out the back door. Just as she's leaving, Carpenter's robot enters the loading area. It's surprisingly fast, its barrels already spinning up. She makes it to the truck, the robot following briefly before giving up the chase; it fires wildly with its chain guns, putting holes in the pickup, but none of them hit the driver. It shouldn't take long for her to reach Michelle.

You give Michelle a painkiller effect, and dramatically slow her bleeding. You relinquish your absolute control over her. She drops everyone she's carrying, turns, and draws the dart gun. One of the cultists lunges at her--Michelle fires the dart gun, blooding him. He immediately collapses; he was the one shot by Carpenter's chain gun moments ago.

The other cultist, during the distraction, has put his knife to Mav's throat.

"I know that you came here to procure this woman," the cultist says, holding tightly to Mav. His voice is stiff and dry, his words deliberate and unnatural sounding. "I could make this zealot slit her throat. It would mean less than nothing to me. I am sure that you understand this."

Michelle grimaces, loading another blood filled needle into the dart gun. She keeps it fixed on the cultist, who keeps a calm, steady grip on the knife.

He continues. "You will tell me where you have been hiding. You will tell me where the rest of your associates are."

Oh I love this, we can be completely truthful but not give the truth he wants. For instance we can say "Mars".

But yeah I'm fairly certain Michelle can easily take down that zealot before he can actually react in time to cut Mav's throat.
wierdweblurker 10th Mar 2018, 9:35 PM edit delete reply
Do ask that Mav body to kindly hold the knife off of her throat while Michelle takes the shot.
Portal In Time 10th Mar 2018, 9:39 PM edit delete reply
I really don't think we should take any chance of exposing our bunkers, even if there's no way he could know, "Mars" would resonate with him too much.

Maybe we could tell him something completely false, as a red herring. "Tier Zero" or something sounds pretty cool, and even somewhat believable. Orrr, we could just insult him.
Portal In Time 10th Mar 2018, 9:41 PM edit delete reply
Here's to hoping Mav doesn't die.
Blue_Elite 10th Mar 2018, 10:25 PM edit delete reply
Hostage situations are a LOT easier when you literally have control over both the hostage and the rescuer.
Coordinate Mav trying to break away with Michelle firing the dart gun. Also be ready to clot Mav's throat. It's not like he's going to be able to stab her; only a quick slash at best before Michelle bloods him. Mav should be able to literally get away with only a scratch.
Twyll 10th Mar 2018, 11:37 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, it's kinda silly to threaten someone with exsanguination when we're *us.*
Blue_Elite 11th Mar 2018, 4:10 AM edit delete reply
In fairness, I think this is just a desperation play. Thale has no way to threaten us (in this case anyway) and so is trying to scare us into giving him SOMETHING out of this whole mess with The Many.
Heck, I'd recommend Michelle distract Thale by informing him of Carpenter's plans with The Many just before the Mav/Michelle maneuver is done. That way, just in case Thale wasn't already aware of Carpenter's semi-betrayal, he can distract himself with trying to take care of that while we go lick our wounds (read: get ice cream, because today is definitely an ice cream day).
Fishbulb 10th Mar 2018, 10:37 PM edit delete reply
While having Mav wait for an opportunity to escape, have Michelle try to distract Thale by asking him questions and (fake) negotiating. Maybe get him to give up some usable information while she's at it?
LytharWolfe 10th Mar 2018, 11:53 PM edit delete reply
Tell him the truth.

We've been hiding on Mars.
Mochi 10th Mar 2018, 11:55 PM edit delete reply
we should maybe let him know carpenter is in the process of betraying him? we could just let him get fucked over, but i don't like carpenter with a giant psychic brain monster, and more in-fighting serves us well.

it's been pointed out that with control over both mav and michelle, we have a pretty good chance of getting out of this. if we had a distraction, that would be ideal, but our only other asset in this area is unfortunately unconscious and in the process of bleeding out from a gunshot wound.

whatever we do, though, i want our last words to thale to be "go fuck yourself, pattywhack"
FlockPack 11th Mar 2018, 12:56 AM edit delete reply
Let's make it last words in this situation. Meeting again is better than dying.

I have no idea what the last words mean, but I also completely agree.
Blue_Elite 11th Mar 2018, 4:15 AM edit delete reply
Actually, I was thinking the distraction could specifically be informing Thale of Carpenter's betrayal rather than the Mars suggestion flying around.
Not only does it serve our immediate purpose, this is twice now he's sent some sort of lab experiment-gone-wrong (the other being Edison, Blade Arms was actually loyal) and it's backfired spectacularly in his face. Maybe he'll be more reserved about using those against us in the future.
Madd 11th Mar 2018, 12:47 AM edit delete reply
Okay, get Mav get out the cultist's grasp, subdue them. Then inform Thale of Carpenter's plans, tell him our base in located inside his ass right next to his head, and then blood the cultist.

If we can't do all of that, just tell him carpenter's plans before blooding him.

Get back into our brain when we're out of the many's range.
Swagner 11th Mar 2018, 12:50 AM edit delete reply
If Michelle can hit the hand he's using to hold the knife with a dart, that's our best bet for getting Mav out of this unsliced. If that can't be reasonably achieved, shoot Mav so that when he cuts her, we can staunch the bleeding (and/or repair the artery/esophagus) immediately, then tackle the cultist and blood him by hand.
Memo 11th Mar 2018, 1:28 AM edit delete reply
If we already have Mav, we should prepare to stop her from bleeding out.
If we don't, then it gets tricky.
We should definitely tell Thale he is being double crossed. And definitely not tell him where we have been.
I haven't seen the "You can now give orders to the cultists" tekst yet, even though we have blooded a few. That have me somewhat concerned.
As far as I can tell, we have not yet blooded Mav.
We should dart her first, then the cultist.
If we blood the cultist first, Thale might control Mav, and try a suicide gambit.
Blue_Elite 11th Mar 2018, 4:24 AM edit delete reply
"Michelle doesn't have time to blood all three before Carpenter's robot gets through. You have her shoot a blood dart at Mav, then try to grab all three and haul them out. ..."

I won't blame you for being confused as it's kinda ambiguous if we blooded Mav or not (I'm assuming Mav being at point-blank range and helpless she's blooded). I'd blame either The Many's influence causing a delay, our out-of-body experience making us not feel the typical reaction, or perhaps the author just got caught up in all the action and details and forgot to give us the Item Get message of someone being successfully blooded.
Of course, I could be wrong and we may be in for a rude surprise.
Twyll 11th Mar 2018, 2:32 PM edit delete reply
I think we might have not gotten the "you can now give orders to Mav" message because our control was being prevented by the Many at the time. I suspect that once we get them fully out of the range of the Many, we'll get the "you can now give orders to" message for all our folks.
Morgenstern 11th Mar 2018, 7:10 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, this was actually just an oversight on my part. I'll add the You can now give messages retroactively probably.
PurpleKetchup 11th Mar 2018, 8:14 AM edit delete reply
Wait wait wait. Telling Thale, who has Z50 ressources, that we are on Mars is a surefire way to get him to search for the gate(s). He probably also has the codes as well.

Let's reconsider telling him we're on Mars, please. Thale doesn't know exactly what we can do, so let him wonder - nothing's worse than a paranoid's own thoughts.
Tell him we just found a way out of his grubby paws and stick a dart in that cultist. Jane will be around soon to tend the wounded.
Leafia_Barrett 11th Mar 2018, 10:07 AM edit delete reply
Okay. Okay um. This is fine, everything is fine, we can handle this.

Painkiller and clot the cultist that collapsed.

Tell Thale that Carpenter is trying to hijack and/or murder him and take his place, using The Many as his tool. Do not tell him we're on Mars, or tier zero, or anything about where we are, true or not. Do not taunt him.

The instant the message has been delivered, if Mav is blooded, tell her to: throw her head back and hit the attacking cultist in the face/cheek to stun them; yank their arm down and push it outwards away from her body; elbow them in the side/stomach; force their arm out and away; rotate her body and grab their wrist, pulling it downward and turning their arm so that the knife is pointing away; release and run away. We don't need to do the whole process of disabling the cultist, only enough that the knife doesn't get the chance to swing at her.

If Mav was able to do this, Michelle can stick the cultist anywhere with a dart; otherwise, Michelle should stick them in the arm or hand. Either way, force them to drop the knife literally the first millisecond we have any control over them. If one dart doesn't have enough blood for the process, use two.

Tell Michelle that you are on your way, and to stay safe until Jane arrives. She's got combat training, she can probably do that better than we can instruct her to.

If Mav isn't correctly blooded yet, fix that as soon as the cultist isn't trying to kill her.

Once Jane exits The Many's range, we can take a breather and relinquish control to Jane again. Mav or the other cultist can take the wheel while Jane treats the wounded.

Going straight back to the bunker entrance is probably not ideal, since Thale will probably have people tailing us.

Did any of the potshots Jane took on the way out hit The Many?

Are we able to screw with the physical structure of those under the blood’s control like we can with our own body? Because we could pin the cultist’s knife arm away from Mav’s body by bursting a few bone spears from her shoulder. It might not be pretty but her death is worse.
pkrankow 11th Mar 2018, 5:16 PM edit delete reply
"Mars" is a poor choice of an answer for "where have you been?" IIRC Thale is aware of where the original blood came from.

"Around" or "You know, playing snowbunny" or "hanging out in the funny pages" something either vague, flippant or both.
