Once you and the others get done eating, you blindfold Zene, and all head back to Bunker A. Fuse checks out his options online while discussing them with Dr. Finch.
While you wait, you fill empty dart gun ammo with your blood, and switch out the tranquilizers in your dart gun for blood darts.
Eventually, Fuse settles on a place called Blaine Cybermedical. Dr. Finch stays behind to work on the suits, and Caius stays behind to keep Zene company. You, Michelle, and Fuse put on some basic items to obscure your identities a little, and head toward the clinic.
You also check on the ravens from time to time, just in case anyone weird shows up. Nothing yet.
Michelle waits in the hummer while you and Fuse go inside. After discussing what you want with the staff--and asking about non-traditional prosthetics--you're presented with your options.
If Fuse gets a normal leg replacement, it will take just under an hour. It will function normally, though he'll need to take medication for a few weeks to make sure the prosthetic heals correctly. You briefly discuss with one of the doctors present about what that medication actually does, in the hope that you can replicate it yourself.
You can also get a combat modified prosthetic. Though normally not allowed for civilian use, the staff are convinced by your... uh... police credentials. You talk with Michelle, mentally, to get your story straight on that one, and you still carry Vasquez's police badge. The combat prosthetic has far more power behind it. Though it would be preferable to get both legs done this way, one leg is still good for increased running speed and ridiculous kicking power--a number of cops have picked it up just for breaking doors in with.
However, installing the combat prosthetic will take upwards of three hours. Cybernetic anchors have to be surgically added to the surrounding body to keep the enhanced leg from ripping itself free, or breaking the host's bones. You can have the normal prosthetic replaced with the combat variant later, if you like, but such a procedure would take even more time--swapping a standard cybernetic leg for a combat one has taken over five hours in the past, so if you don't like massive time sinks, it's better to get what you want now.
You step aside with Fuse for a moment, and ask what he'd prefer.
"Well... obviously, the bad ass super leg would be cooler, but I'd miss out on what we've got planned. S'up to you on this one--if you think you'll need me, we'd better roll with the regular option. ...But man, being able to kick a dude through a wall would be nice. I might be a little biased."
You mean we have a chance to give our second squishiest party member a decent melee attack? Get him the combat leg, and tell him to aim for the family jewels!
Yeah, I like the combat idea. Since his pyrokinesis is kind of a mid-range ability, being able to kick a close-range attacker away from him to be able to set 'em on fire sounds like an excellent combo.
Ideally Thale will be busy setting up an ambush with Zene's father (or mother if not the father) so hopefully we can get away with getting Fuse a new leg without drama.
With that in mind, I'd rather go with the combat leg now as I'm afraid if we go with the 5 hour option later, that'll give Thale time to setup an attack during that procedure.
Plus it's what Fuse wants anyway. Merry X-mas Fuse. ^_^
That'll leave Jane and Michelle (possibly Dr. Finch) to accompany Zene.
If it’s military grade and people use it to kick down doors, I’m sure it’s a little fire resistant, for the firefighters out there that could use it just as well. Plus, ya know, metal. I doubt it’s gonna be burning off any time soon.
We should ask if there’s anything to prevent frostbite in colder temperatures where the flesh meets the metal, though. I remember something like that in Full Metal Alchemist, it was pretty terrible.
It’s unanimous, Combat Leg! Merry Future Christmas™️, Fuse! We should ask if there’s like, a little storage space in the leg, though. It would be useful having a taser or super fancy hacker tools in there. It’s at least Future-USB compatible, right?
On the subject of upgrades, we should consider finding a way to reinforce our skeletons. After all, this upgrade results in Jane being the squishy-ist member of the team, and making her bones nearly unbreakable would go quite a ways towards improving her defenses. If we're limited to biological materials, please remember that tungsten is a biological element in certain microorganisms.
Some comments:
1 Jane needs to meet Red in her mind room, give her a fresh uniform and brush Red's hair.
2 After evivcting Nil, Dr Finch did not examine himself for possible problems since he was in on the link to Macland. In 639 there was a statement about the Dr being tired and not investigating himself.
I put in a vote for a combat modified prosthetic. It will be so worth. ;v;*)b
"Fuse. Kick 'em in the family jewels."
:P

3 go mil-spec for Fuse's leg.
