You increase the natural production of opioid peptides in the scientist's body. You increase them a great deal.

Essentially, you overdose him on painkillers. The plant man's breathing slows...

and then stops.

You wait.

You don't feel him die.

You state this to Dr. Finch and Caius.

"His... his lungs may be vestigial, at this stage. Or or or any of the organs that would normally shut down as too many brain receptors are blocked. If that's the case--"

Caius exhales quietly, and begins to draw his gun. Just as he's readying it, however

you feel the scientist die.

You stop Caius, who nods, and re-holsters his pistol.

Dr. Finch checks the computer again, attempting to find the scientist's name. After a moment or two of scrolling through text, he states simply, "Dr. Deaglan Camp. He's been here for at least one hundred years... I very much doubt his passing away will come as a shock to any family members."

"How he died sure might," Caius replies. "S'gonna be hard to explain all this."

Dr. Finch shuts down the rest of the plant system for the room to prevent further growth.

At least it was painless. Relatively.

I mean we overdosed him on painkillers, he's not going to feel pain if the thing killing him is too much of the stuff that prevents pain, so yeah painless as possible it would seem, the only thing less painful would be to give him anesthetic but we don't really know how to do that I don't think, Nil was just kinda doing it using its own knowledge

We should thank Caius for being willing to take the shot, even if he didn't have to in the end. Sadly, this is the sort of thing we need to get used to. With great power comes great responsibility, and also great trauma...

Well. I guess we know to not eat the blood. It'll cause flashbacks to us desperately trying to save this guy.
Mochi 3rd Dec 2017, 2:18 PM edit delete reply
how about some ice cream?
Twyll 3rd Dec 2017, 2:20 PM edit delete reply
Ice cream and hugs.

I was gonna say we should pick a daisy from the upper floors while we're here to give to Mom's red, but... I dunno if we should, now? Like, it might just be too sad...

If we're going to pick flowers for Mom's Red, we should pick some flowers for Deaglan, too. He deserves some post-mortem respect, for all he's been through.

I'm kinda concerned about how much ice cream we're having.

If I may ask Morgenstern, what kind of ice cream do we have in the freezer? Is it low-fat gorge-when-you're-depressed stuff? Generic strawberry? Triple fudge gelato?
Morgenstern 3rd Dec 2017, 5:43 PM edit delete reply
Mint chocolate chip

and it is definitely not low fat
Blue_Elite 3rd Dec 2017, 5:57 PM edit delete reply
Yay for the flavor! ^_^

Though that DOES mean we need to be careful about turning to ice cream for emotional suffering. We want to be able to fit in our jeans. X3

We need to think of a way to clean up the mess. It is not good to keep looking at that.

Best get out before that door held open by the plants suddenly has no resistance anymore.

Make a mental note to pick up a machete, both for Caius' melee prowess and for "gardening". Those plant tendrils look sturdy.

A thought-- if he was trapped in here by the bunker door system being switched, does that mean he encountered the Error Room? Is there anything in his notes to that effect?

The Doctor has been laid to rest, as it were.
Go on then, take some time away from here.

We're not quite done here, but that can wait for a better time.
