You guide Dr. Finch over to the dumpster with Caius. Fuse draws his gun, alternating between keeping his aim fixed on the hummer and taking a cursory glance for Dr. Finch's glasses.

You ask Caius for Gesenai's number. He hesitates... but he gives it to you. You start dialing the number.

The backseat window of the hummer rolls down. Someone peeks out to take a shot; they look bulkier, like one of Shirai's usual guards. They fire at Michelle, putting another hole in her windshield but missing her. Fuse shoots at the guard, but they pull back too quickly--Fuse misses, narrowly.

Shirai answers the phone. "Who is this?"

You explain--quickly--that she's not being told everything, that Carpenter and Knox are lying to her about what happened to Macland but if she doesn't call off the hit right now she's never going to know the truth.

"Why should I believe you?," she asks. She sounds stressed, possibly preoccupied, but she manages to keep a fairly even tone. "You'd say anything to get out of the position you're in. Do you really know something? Or are you just that desperate?"

The guard takes another shot at Michelle, this time keeping themselves fairly contained in the hummer. Their position from the backseat lets them shoot without exposing themselves too much, at least to Fuse--though this time it's Caius who returns fire, shoving Dr. Finch aside to fire his pistol at the guard. You can't tell from here if Caius was successful. At the very least, the guard missed Michelle again, with Shirai's brand of tube cop still being poor at firearms training.

"I have no reason to trust you."

The black vehicle begins to wiggle free, skidding across the front of Michelle's truck as it reverses. Michelle tries to maneuver her truck to intercept as the hummer lines itself up to ram.

Threaten her with Eddison for the moment, but build her trust up afterwards with the truth. The sooner she calls them off, the sooner we don't die.

Uh... pull the 'if you care about Macland, you'd call this hit off' card? :'D Otherwise... try to jump that car now before it's too late? hahahaha >_>

EDIT: By this I really mean like, we can actually help Macland, maybe. Not like, if you don't want us to kill him LOL I just realised what I made it sound like. XD;;;

"So you would rather trust the psychopath who uses your bouncers as biological weapons? Or the guy who is trying to turn the entire city into his puppets? How long do you think it will be until Thale tries to get you queened and on his strings? How often has he tried to pressure you and Mac to take it so he wouldn't have to trick you into it later?"

o his puppets? how long until he tries to queen you, you think?"

... Oops. that post got messed up, but I think I got my point across.

well who the fuck can you trust, then, gesenai? because i fucking guarantee you can't trust thale, knox, or carpenter any fucking further than you could throw them. you want to know what happened to your friend? what really happened? what carpenter tried to do? call off your fucking goons before you lose three more of them. we really are that fucking desperate, but you know what? we're also, by and large, the most trustworthy fucking party you've run across.

and i swear on all that is holy if anything happens to our friends you are fucking next.

Maybe with a bit less hostility, but I agree with the sentiment.

I think we should stop withholding. Shirai has just slightly less reason to trust us than the rest of her group; and that's only because Carpenter has her convinced (through lack of any other knowledge) that WE're the ones that put Macland in his current state.

At this point there isn't even a guarantee she'll believe us even if we tell her the truth (well... most of the truth, we don't HAVE to mention our little trip through Macland's mind was what triggered Carpenter's trap). Maybe if we're straightforward enough she'll at least halt the kill attempts to listen to our side of things.

Stress is very human. Let some of your frustration out, along with a relatively brief rant about the shit we have had to deal with that was no fault of our own. Also GET TO COVER.

You know very well what kind of psychopath carpenter is. Besides your boss isn't going to need you if he gets everyone else on queen.

Also, while we are calling the lady, can we get someone to check the dumpster quick for anything useful?
Blue_Elite 22nd Nov 2017, 11:30 PM edit delete reply
Pretty sure we're not going to make any headway unless we give Shirai what she wants.
Tell Shirai that Carpenter subjected Macland to some sort of mental treatment that gradually shut his brain down until he became the vegetable that he currently is. We've been looking into how to reverse the damage but we need more information about Macland's diagnosis to make any headway. Also, of course, we're not going to be able to do ANYTHING to help if we're dead.

In the meantime, try and shoot out the driver-side window and have Fuse attempt to set the driver side on fire. Even if it doesn't work exactly, hopefully it'll be more delay and might throw off the next ramming attempt.
If anyone has any automotive knowledge and knows where to aim to hit the fuel tank, that'd be a nice little opener to have Fuse light the fuel on fire instead.

"So you won't trust me, but you'll trust that giggling nutjob Carpenter?"

Appeal to her desire to end Patton Thale?
