While Michelle continues to inspect the generator, you begin looking at the shelf and cabinets.

You don't find much. The place seems to have been emptied out pretty thoroughly. Inside one of the cabinets, the number 4 has been etched into the surface. It looks like they started to add a number after it, but didn't really get started--it might have been 47, 42... 41, if the person was going to make a very fancy 1. You're not sure. It's definitely four-something, though.

You go ahead and tell Fuse and Dr. Finch to start gathering their things, and to grab your computer, before heading over to this address. You also ask if they can pick up some cleaning supplies, especially for laundry.

"There's nowhere to put fuel in," Michelle finally concludes. "Like... no gas cap or nothin'. No power cells or... batteries or whatever. Like, I don't know what this thing is gettin' power from, but it's built into the wall."

"We don't know where we are," Caius says. "Could be anything. Could be solar panels or wind turbines or... or who knows outside."

"It feels like a military base," Michelle says, "but it's not laid out like one. It's weird."

"Zone Fifty, right?," Caius says. "Government scientists, prob'ly doin' things tha rest of tha government wasn't s'posed to know about. Sorta military but not really sounds about right."

keep exploring! through the door on the right side.

i get the feeling something weird went down here. but it's been so cleaned out, it doesn't feel like they left in a hurry. this was a planned exodus. they took everything except the furniture... do our cellphones work? that'd be a good step to determining where we are. they probably have GPS, right?

I agree with mochi, but be a little more careful, I think we're lucky we haven't seen anything that might what to kill us

Wait, that's what the pipes are for! They might be supplying fuel to various parts of the building, or if it's not that it's a plumbing pipe to a second floor, maybe bring up the possibility of the pipes bringing fuel to the generator to the group

You just gave me the visual impression of a facility stationed within the atmosphere of Jupiter siphoning off the gasses to fuel the facility.
*sound of vent fans turning on*
*hollow metal air noise fills the silence*
*repetitive hum of vent circulation*

Edit: (9:55 PM) Cause if the generator was getting fuel for operation over the past 50 years, there has to be a source somewhere, plus we went through that warp-like door, so our location is entirely unknown. On top of that an outer space location would not be far-flung due to this facility was designed to study aliens.
So Jupiter is a gas planet, with enough gaseous materials to fuel a base for an extremely long time.

It makes sense if I narrate it... I guess... A little bit?
I write stories and do a lot of world-building exercises.

Hrm. So, possibly either 42 or 47 (Or, much less likely, 41)... And also 53 in the other room... I wonder how many more of those numbers there are. I'd also ponder using the paper that had the 53 on it, but that's probably far too faded to be of use. Ah well. Just means that whatever room we end up in next, we'll just have to be on the lookout for important numbers in cupboards and whatnot.

I know this is an old part of the comic since it's at issue 1ksomething now, but I just want to note -- the person was definitely carving "420" into the locker. Whatever the explanation winds up being is probably just coincidence. Dude was carving 420.
