You shout for Michelle to roll a soda down the vent.

You start by checking the Tobu program. It looks like its a general use interface for a variety of Tobu programs, mostly operating in its own coding language. You would still need to hack into an individual machine to give it orders on the fly, though.

"You said he was controlling the bio printer, right? Making it print insane monsters? He'd have to be coding all of that in real time, or at least plugging in stuff he had prepared. If he was familiar with the language--and an ex-employee of the company would be, I guess--he'd still have to know what code to type... I doubt you could just punch in <# of buttholes=3> and get a monster with three anuses. There's gotta be some like... medical know-how involved, right?"

Fuse opens up the e-mails app. There is... a long list of them, that you and Fuse spend a while sorting through.

It looks like Howler was in communications with people from the drug forums. Howler had been wanting to do something like the Tobu attack for a while--a massive swathe of anarchy cut across the city's face, an anti-capitalist statement to spite the corporations. Tobu, in particular, Howler had developed a grudge against during his time under their heel. He reasoned that, at the very least, having their name attached to such a horrific event would damage their brand.

People from the forum encouraged Howler to wait. They wanted him to strike at the perfect moment.

The day you came back to life, Howler's inbox was flooded. People almost seemed to be panicking. They wanted him to start the Tobu hack that very day, as soon as he could. They started nudging him toward the hospital... and by the end, they were outright telling him to kill you. In some of his responses he's skeptical, but the others eventually convince him

that you are the devil.

They relay that, at some point, you were exposed to Save the Queen... and instead of taking it like every other normal member of the population, your body rejected it. You died and came back to life, as foretold in the prophecy. Howler didn't believe in the religious mumbo jumbo, at first--drugs are drugs, he'd never given spiritual meaning to them--but watching you on the hidden cameras sold him on the idea.

By the end of the e-mails, Howler is talking about you with as much zealous hatred as the others are.

The e-mails also hint that Howler was livestreaming the surveillance footage. You can't tell exactly how many people actually watched the events of the hospital in real time, but... Howler wasn't alone. It was a great spectacle, broadcast to the internet. You also find e-mails detailing medical information, and exchanges between Howler and what must be doctors, trying to help them turn their horrific ideas into code (and eventually, into parts of monsters).

Howler's intentions were never good. He wanted to commit domestic terrorism. His already vile act was then co-opted by some kind of drug cult to try and kill their "devil."

I am so happy we have a soda.

Aww nuts. Is... Fuse okay? Can he accept this development? :< This is his childhood friend, right? (Does he need a soda, too?)

Are there any doctors in particular that stand out in the emails?

Vahno 4th Aug 2017, 7:48 AM edit delete reply
Let's NOT get all murderous, yeah? I mean, this cult is bad news, but let's try and keep them as the bad guys.
Guest 4th Aug 2017, 9:18 AM edit delete reply
Agreed. I don't want this to become a "she who fights monsters" deal.
Xylas_Incarnum 4th Aug 2017, 4:07 PM edit delete reply
I hold the "If it's hostile, you kill it" general mentality, with the add on of "If it's peaceful, let it live." with some room for interpretation.
The cult's clearly labeled itself hostile by its actions, trying to kill us repeatedly in this manner ain't a misguided/repeatedly failed attempt at communicating with us.

A Lot of things can be solved non violently even when violence is the obvious solution, this is one where it can be solved no other way... at least until we reach the big bad at the end. So to speak.

Try and find more details on this "Drug Cult" because you can't forgive them they tried to kill you for crying out loud. UNFORGIVABLE!

Hey Morgenstern! This is a really cool adventure you're doing. Excellent use of sprites and ~velocity~!

> Red Team : Don't just look for general information about the cult, you're going to want specifically doctrine information. If Jane is the devil, learning what that means is a high priority.

> Michelle : Maybe look for surveillance equipment? If someone hooked a lower-level hacker up with some expensive gear, it makes sense they'd try to keep an eye on it.

If the blood control deal can be used to acquire information can you convey information as well? If so, it might come in handy if you can't, or don't want to, use a phone for some reason.(we don't know what other resources this "drug cult" has access to) Maybe test this out and, in the process, try to get Dr. Finch's take on what you just learned.

I don't think we've seen a sprite of Howler. His silhouette maybe but not a full on sprite.

New reader going through the archives here <3 I wonder if you ever did get around to drawing Howler? I mean I would've loved to see your interpretation of the creepy monitor man silhouette at least. :3
