You thank everyone for their efforts, and apologize for losing contact. You... tried to be gone... uh... not as long as you were.
Caius begins to carefully climb back down.
You do a quick mental check on everyone, and you tell the worm that you'll be back tomorrow to talk. You want to give them some time to think about all this.
You also ask if they have a name.
"I DO NOT," the voices hum, somewhat distorted.
You nod, and start walking back toward the lab. You ask... what the hell all happened while you were gone. Why did everybody try to fight the giant silkworm
"We thought you got kidnapped, or soul sucked or somethin'," Caius replies.
"We gave it a couple hours," Michelle adds, "then we started worryin'. The guys went to go get a power reader--we figured y'wouldn't go down without a fight, so maybe the worm was weakened."
"We tested the air, and the EM fields were weaker than before," Fuse says. "Way weaker. It could've been trying to draw us in, but..."
"We got desperate," Michelle admits. "If that thing had you, we needed to do somethin' before it got its strength back. Fuse and Finch rigged up some EMP things."
"We hoped," Fuse starts, "they might be strong enough to like... counter-charge, form sort of a shield against the blast. It was a terrible ass idea, we had to have pinpoint reaction time, and we were gambling on the worm being weak enough--"
"Hey, it worked though," Caius interjects.
"ONCE," Fuse huffs. "It worked one time and blew out one of our two devices. We got lucky timing it as well as we did, if Blondie hadn't showed up we were probably SOL."
"Oh," Michelle adds, "and Liz's been talkin' to Edison."
"AND THAT!," Fuse actually yells, his voice echoing a bit across the empty town. "That sure as FUCK didn't stress us out any less."
Wait, what...? Really?
"Yeah," Caius nods, "while we were all messin' with worm stuff, Liz got tha kids to take her to Edison. Said they had a long chat."
Michelle nods, as well. "I checked the containment area before we left--Edison's still there, Liz didn't break her out or anything like that. Edison said she wanted to talk to you, though--I, uh, didn't mention we didn't know where you were, at the time. She was... calm."
"Which is a bad sign," Fuse suggests. "We have no idea what Liz said to her, we were too busy doomsday prepping for thunderworm to ramp up an interrogation."
You tell them you appreciate the, uh, effort, and you ask Michelle what she ended up giving the tradesmen.
"Oh," Michelle chuckles dryly, "long story short, I ain't gettin' my old apartment back. Joke's on them, I didn't want any of that stuff anymore anyhow."
You eventually make it back to the bunker. You feel... very, very tired, mentally and physically.
"Oh, thank goodness," Dr. Finch says with a sigh. "I was beginning to fear the worst. Is everything alright? ...Why is your armor pink?"
"'Cuz she's a magical girl," Michelle says simply.
Caius chuckles.
Fuse gives a louder, longer sigh. "I should have saved that super level the tradesmen gave us. I should've held onto it. I should've known."
So, Liz did a thing on her own initiative! That's huge and really good! :D Even if it was an incredibly dangerous thing that she did ^_^; So let's try not to be hard on her when we ask her what she talked about with Edison. I think it would be wise to ask her about that while everyone else takes a breather, and then we can assess if we should rest first or go see Edison immediately.
This. Let's have a chat, ask what her motive was here, see what she talked about, and probably praise her initiative, as long as she didn't do anything really off the wall. Maybe even then, depends on what it was, I guess.
Supposing we forego interrogation and just have Liz join us talking to Edison and explain on the way. Not that we need to be peaceable or nice or anything, but we have no reason to not trust Liz, and if she's been successful in talking to Edison, then we may benefit from her coming in with us.
Liz almost certainly won't mind telling us why she decided to do it and what they spoke about. I vote we just be straightforward about it - Liz is the kind of person who would appreciate that much more than beating around the bush.
We can be clear that we appreciate her personal initiative and don't feel that she stepped out of line or anything, though.
Let's catch up with everyone, and ask Liz about her chat with Edison. I would like to talk to Pierce before we go to bed. If we find ourselves aware of things during our sleep again, let's try enhancing the effectiveness of everyone's rest.
Alright, I believe our full course of events this evening should be:
Apologize for falling out of the world unexpectedly to those who stayed at the bunker, and give out a round of hugs. Inquire as to what it felt like while we were away. If it felt basically normal, then we're doing good on the "not exerting too much control subconsciously, and thus should be able to release all control when this is over safely" front.
Then, talk to Elizabeth about how it went with the ghost children. We're in favor of her independent action, and honestly, her exceptionally neutral outlook might have been very helpful.
Next, we'll want to check in with Edison directly. We'll bring the full force of our kind, patient self to bare, backed up with a couple of the souvenirs and non-specific things we purchased for the ghosts from our spa day in Southden. Hoping for the best here.
Finally, a meal, a recap, and a planning session for the morrow with the crew, before going to bed. Sound good?
The crew definitely deserves to know what happened when we were gone, but it's probably best to get to that after we have a chat with Liz and possibly speak with Edison.
Fuse needing a bit of super level and rhyu's mention of trying super beer got me an idea.
Lets trade our next meal up.
Buy a bunch of pizza and get a tradesmenpizza or something else if you don't want pizza.
We already know the Tradesmen like our food, after all they already took our chicken and pancakes for the Q&A-Ritual.
Another thing:
"I ain't gettin' my old apartment back."
Could Michelle clarify?
Did they want all the stuff inside the apartment or did they actually take the whole apartment itself and there's now a hole like with Carpenters building in the apartmentcomplex or is it something else?
Would it be possible to create minds with the red. More brains or something similar to increase the processing power of Mine. She clearly can create, thus it would make sense to increase her power like the Many but with brain power. And if at all use dead peoples brains? Like they're dead, so lets use the body parts.
Why make human brains, when each particle of red can already act like a neuron ? Mine can definitely tweak her red so she can directly offload her mental processes to it.
