Morgenstern
You decide that the next step, for you, should be training--if you can get faster at implementing portals, and better at maneuvering through the red, then you can provide escape options when necessary.

"Could also help with mobility," Michelle points out. "If you can get good at portals, AND usin'... I dunno, tentacles or somethin' to whip yourself around like a grapplin' hook... you could be fast. Real fast. We've dodged around Carpenter's robots before--if he's gonna be packin' more guns this time around, then we need to be even quicker."

"What're WE doin' durin' all this?," Caius asks.

Michelle crosses her arm, giving it a moment of thought. "Well... we still got Bunker X, but I'm still not good with runnin' that without Blondie."

"Yeah," Fuse adds, "I doubt the tradesmen will just let her portal in and out of Bunker X."

"They did retrieve Knox from the Red," points out Dr. Finch. "That does suggest they can exert some small amount of influence over it and its use, at least when granted Mine's permission."

"Further," continues Liz, "part of the 'rules' they set forward--that you all agreed to--was that the composition of challengers could not be changed halfway through a floor. Am I remembering that correctly?"

Dr. Finch nods. "Indeed. I think we can assume that counts as permission, for all intents and purposes--at minimum, I would prefer not to gamble on whether or not Mine could portal in mid-dungeon crawl."

"Dungeon crawl," Caius chuckles, before adding a quieter "Nerd."

Dr. Finch manages to restrain his own grin before it gets too far.

"There's still the power station, too," Michelle remarks. "That WAS our plan for today, before all this weird Carpenter junk came up."

"Yeah, we were plannin' on doin' that without Blondie anyway," Caius says with a small nod. "So that's a thing."

"And," begins Fuse, "there's no tradesmen rules or... whatever, if we need to blood somebody in or out."

Aside from getting better at portals and maneuvering with your blood powers, you also consider improving your spiritual abilities. Practicing with Red or the ghost girls could help in that regard... and the mention of the power plant--which is still, eventually, to help the people currently housed on Mars--reminds you of Pierce. He might know a few things himself about mental/spiritual warfare, given that he's likely studied more magic than anyone else you know.

Okay - I think we have to admit that we just don't have the time and attention to do everything ourselves.

Let's let a squad go take care of the power plant while we train. We can give them a prototype medic golem to give us something to keep an eye on them with, treat wounds and spill blood on the floor to portal ourselves over quick in an emergency.

This golem would basically just be a little bag or sack filled with our blood, with IV needle tipped tentacles for arms so that it can pump our blood into anyone injured - we can use our blood as materials to repair their injury, and refill the blood in the golem with a portal as needed. It could have a chitinous layer on the outside to help avoid accidental punctures. Make able to be worn as a backpack, or give it suckers to attach to someone's bone armor.

Meanwhile, we need to focus on training. Perhaps spritual first - we can go to Mars, and talk things over with Red and Pierce... and maybe the ghost girls, if they want.

I doubt Mine will be able to focus on using blood powers on her allies via the med golem if she’s in the middle of intense spiritual training, so we need to be a bit careful with our scheduling. But this is a pretty good workable plan.

I do like the idea of talking things over with Pierce. Ooh! Actually, Pierce might be able to help us get in touch with Mom’s internal red! At the time we learned about the internal red, it was cut off to us. But later, we learned about rituals that draw from a specific red (ours) and we might be able to re-calibrate a ritual to be able to contact Mom’s internal red. Mom herself might be dead, but the red of a fragment seems to remain in existence, and Mom’s Red mentioned that some of her memories— or at least a bit of her personality— are stored in the internal red. That means we might be able to ask Mom’s internal red for help and support, as a much more experienced red than ours.

+1 but lets not forget to checkup on Edison. x: how long was Mine talking to the tradesmen? Can ghosts eat?(probably don't need to) if so maybe give Edison some pancakes? (if ghosts can eat Tesla and Faraday probably already have)

Maybe Moms (externalized) Red(and baby red) can help Pierce with "Targeting" the spell Twyll suggests?

also my portal idea from last page i suggest again.

+1 for training intermixed with checking on Edison.

We could also make smaller versions for individual use. Just a flatish sac with a needle to allow blood flow.

Aw beans, just caught back up with the updates. I was the one who suggested erasing the robo-bomb with the Nil ritual, so, sorry for Nilpenter I guess haha.

There was also Big Red's comment that you might be able to bend the rules about blood being contained. Learning to define a room/building/planet's atmosphere as a container with a small blood grenade or a blood bug emitting a fine mist on the walls could allow for a good deal of new opportunities.

"Anything that is not infinite is a container"
i believe this~! x: it would also mean that the universe itself is a container. x:

Odd suggestion here but I think it might be a good idea to make some specialty equipment for the team as well. Some things to enhance their best attributes.

Like some sort of gloves or gauntlets for our fighter caius

Or some flammable bombs fuse can blow like a, beer bottle full of gasoline, or an egg shell filled with gunpowder.

Michelle already has the minigun, and Mine has blood powers we should shore up our other Allies too

Powder is extremely flammable. Ever blow a strawful of coffee creamer into a candle flame? BOOM! Maybe more gee wiz, but cheap shock value and making powder and blowing air might be good practice.

Yeah same idea but more mobile of a form. I went with egg shells and gun powder from an old ninja documentary, where they would fill them with stuff for smoke Bombs. Making dust bombs with enough powder to do some real damage to even a person is quite a bit

It is in either case, an eggshell filled with flammable powder, or simply a jet of air with powder, complex, dry materials made directly from red. This kind of thing has applications

Displace gasses or liquids to make a breathable space
Seal up a filter
Hide

As gunpowder it is a gernade of sorts

As a hot liquid in a tube we can make a magic marker (sorry about the pun, not sorry about the idea) or a glue gun. Or a glue gun that puts down metals as a welder.

Lots of possibilities to controlling what comes out of the red, the temperature and moisture level.

We know there are other ghosts in Ilworth, maybe whoever's investigating the power plant can try talking to them first.

If you need time to train your spirit, what about entering the red in ghost form and slowing time down?
Lunar Waffles 17th Nov 2018, 12:47 AM edit delete reply
Lunar Waffles
technically speeding it up inside the red is what slows it down outside?
Skullrama 17th Nov 2018, 12:51 AM edit delete reply
If we could figure out how to enter the red in ghost form, that would be nice. So far, ghost form cuts us off from the red.

...Although now I wonder what would happen if we entered the red, THEN did astral projection. Would we be cut off from the red while in it? Hmmm. Maybe one of the things we could discuss with Red and Pierce.

*Looks at title, etc.
Choo! Choo! Redeye train now boarding!

Actually...that may be a viable solution for how to move people through the red portal>train drops off Xpoeple/supplies>portal done.

We know what we want to do, and we know what we want our combat-ready personnel to do. I'd like to know more about the various zone 50 items that we have in storage. Dr. Finch and the others could look into them while we train. Zene's family would probably be fine with working under his supervision. Questions for research team: What is that green slime? Does the blue cactus have any anomalous properties? What makes the yeti fur blurry?
