Though it's not as urgent--well, it could be, depending--you ask the tradesmen if a written request would alter the outcome of the trade up ritual.

"We will answer this question for two pancakes."

You ask the tradesmen what, to the best of their knowledge, is preventing them from learning what's beyond the door.

"We will answer this question in exchange for what remains of Knox."

definitely giving them two pancakes.
Guest 11th Nov 2018, 6:55 PM edit delete reply
I'd rather not trade Knox... trading once-sentient beings seems territory we probably shouldn't tread into.
Guest 11th Nov 2018, 6:58 PM edit delete reply
Honestly, the way they put it makes it sound more like they're asking for his corpse. Which means that there really isn't any saving what's left of Knox.
I personally don't have a big issue with this trade: we tried to save him and failed, and otherwise his corpse would either remain floating in the red or be buried on Mars (which given any Mars-blood might be a bad idea), so I could agree to the trade.
I can understand why others might have an issue with it though.

While I do support handing over the remains... we know of two people who knew Knox when he was alive. Caius and Macland. We may want to notify them that we're going to be handing over Knox's body to interdimensional information brokers before we go through with it. And maybe even reconsider if one or both of them have particularly strong objections.

I agree to contacting Caius, since he and Knox are sort of brothers. Macland, maybe not.
Skullrama 11th Nov 2018, 7:29 PM edit delete reply
We should ask then both. MacLand grew enough of a conscience to really care when Caius was going to die - he might care about Knox enough to have an opinion. We should at least ask him - worst that can happen is he doesn't care.

I'd feel a lot worse if we didn't ask and find out later that he really did care.

Fair enough.
white 12th Nov 2018, 12:48 AM edit delete reply
Macland Row doesn't even know about the tradesmen as far as we're aware. Asking him about this would require we first explain them to him and I don't think we want to take the time to do that right now.
PurpleKetchup 12th Nov 2018, 2:15 PM edit delete reply
Supporting Skullrama here, let's ask both of them. Macland is aware of stuff going bonk in the night from his encounter with Nil, so it will be easy enough to explain we're in touch with extradimensional info brokers with unique interests.

Ask the Tradesmen what toppings they want on their pancakes. And that they'll get more than two, to make up for the lack of hugs (and free info).

+1 to these, all of them, the ask, the don't asks, im torn. But if we have the option to say yes to both trades(if everyone decides to ask and no one objects or if we decide to not ask), then yes to both trades.

Ask if it is possible to pay with something equivalent to but different than what they offer.
Waddle Dee 11th Nov 2018, 6:56 PM edit delete reply
Pancake time! Sure thing.

Knox is mostly gone, but he still might have some info. Question is, is it good info, or info that we can afford to force-sync to learn?

I feel like the information now would be worth it, and I'm in favor of that trade. Thoughts?

I doubt he has much that Liz doesn't know.

Exchange the pancakes and knox.
Tinkerbill93 11th Nov 2018, 7:01 PM edit delete reply
Yes on Knox, unless we should try rewinding his time inside the red and reverting him to his previous un-monstered? State
Lunar Waffles 11th Nov 2018, 7:04 PM edit delete reply
Lunar Waffles
But then he will be in the red, awake, and become insane. o-o and we cant force him to sleep while we rewind him because we would keep rewinding him to before we forced him to sleep. x-x also, no idea even if we can get him out before he goes crazy, if that will or wont get the time-cops after us and that's the NICE worry we have about it. x:
Tinkerbill93 11th Nov 2018, 7:16 PM edit delete reply
But think if it like this, if one of our more well developed companions had the same issue, wouldn't we risk it for them? If fuse combusts or Michelle gets horribly injured

Thats why i suggested we ask the tradesmen about it a few pages ago(tho since we're about to rush into battle now probably isnt the best time)
SomeoneImaynotknow 11th Nov 2018, 7:02 PM edit delete reply
Give both, pancakes aren't important and we don't have any use for Knox.
The Chicken Guy 11th Nov 2018, 9:02 PM edit delete reply
How dare you say pancakes aren't important.

They meant to say pancakes aren't in short supply. *nod* I just made some! :D

Ask if it's possible to trade down as well, like if we have a fancy but useless item maybe we could get something more but less useful. Like trade down a tuxedo for five sets of overalls
undeadDreamer 11th Nov 2018, 7:30 PM edit delete reply

That'd be a different ritual.

Accept the deal. Since the beginning we knew we can't save him. He was basically an object of experimentation for us XD.
Snervalton 11th Nov 2018, 7:18 PM edit delete reply
I think these are both deals that we should accept. I'd also +1 the suggestion from the last page: ask how we can get Edison to trust us more.

I'm seconding the idea of asking at least Caius, maybe Macland too, if they're okay with us just giving Knox's remains away instead of burying them or something.
The Chicken Guy 11th Nov 2018, 9:04 PM edit delete reply
I think Knox is probably a corpse, or at least completely brain-dead, but this is still an ethical dilemma. Definitely ask. I have a feeling Caius won't care, and I don't know if we can repair Knox, and I'm certain that if we could, it wouldn't be safe.
Limrix 11th Nov 2018, 10:11 PM edit delete reply

We should try asking them from here before ending the ritual to try to ask. And we should accept the pancakes deal.
Twyll 11th Nov 2018, 8:05 PM edit delete reply
The only further use we could get from Knox's remains is in testing reversing someone's personal timeline. Maybe before trading him, we should ask the Tradesmen what the result of attempting that would be.

Also yeah, we should definitely talk the Knox thing over with our teammates. We can probably just trade the pancakes tho :P
Crayssius 11th Nov 2018, 8:17 PM edit delete reply
Uh, couldn't we use Knox as a blood-golem?
undeadDreamer 11th Nov 2018, 9:35 PM edit delete reply
undeadDreamer
...We're not doing that.
white 12th Nov 2018, 12:57 AM edit delete reply
What he was made into is not stable. Even if we wanted to do that, we'd need to be actively maintaining and repairing that form. It's just not viable.
Chaostraveler 11th Nov 2018, 9:56 PM edit delete reply
Definitely give them some pancakes, but ask how they would like them (also if it's two apiece as there seem to be four of them). I agree that we should ask Caius and Mac about Knox, and maybe ask what will be done to him after the trade. Also, ask if there is anything we can do to help earn Edison's trust or help the ghost girls in general.
winger 11th Nov 2018, 10:55 PM edit delete reply
i idea for the thing with knox why dont we first have the brain removed and preserved like what we did with caius (ask if the tradesmen care tho if they do it might mean there is something to save) and we can use the red to make a new body for practice
white 12th Nov 2018, 1:00 AM edit delete reply
I thought there wasn't enough of a mind left to save.

Knox is still an asset. We can experiment on him, at the very least. I wouldn't be so quick on parting with this asset, as this would deprive us from a lot of learning experience.
1977 12th Nov 2018, 3:25 AM edit delete reply
Definitely yes to giving them pancakes, pancakes for everyone!

About Knox, we should discuss this with the others first.
Ask Caius and Macland about it.
1977 12th Nov 2018, 3:39 AM edit delete reply
I have one very important question we could ask: Why is Dr. Finch wearing glasses?
In a world where you can just regrow eyes and replace them there shouldn't be any need for them.
Mine had lost her eye at the beginning and had it replaced, later she lost it again and again it was replaced.
When it is so easy to replace them it should be possible to correct any faults they have, in other words all people who can afford bioprinted eyes should have perfect vision.

For one, finch probably cares about looking smart. For another, wearing glasses means you won't have to undergo eye replacement surgery.

Incidentally, I constantly see people worried that using that soul-destroying gun will destroy the soul of the wielder. But didn't the description say it costs the LIFE of the wielder, which was even stated in similar terms twice? That sounds gameable through golems and such.
Guest 12th Nov 2018, 4:13 PM edit delete reply
Yes, but anyone with intent to use it might be considered a "wielder." Heck, you might accidentally end up with more than one person "wielding" it that way. If you trick and enemy into using it, are you wielding it as well?
Guest 12th Nov 2018, 4:02 PM edit delete reply
Are we allowed to know what will happen to Knox? I.e. can we be sure he won't be tortured somewhere, assuming he has enough mind left to feel pain?
Guest 12th Nov 2018, 4:10 PM edit delete reply
1.) the fact that there was blood on the ground outside Carpenter's... makes me worried he may be trying to duplicate our powers somehow, and that bloody tings may be a threat.

2.) perhaps ask for a hint on how to "turn" the Many? They seem pretty chaotic-neutral and could be a nice ally to have, especially as an emplaced asset.
Departure_Dave 12th Nov 2018, 6:45 PM edit delete reply
Talk to Caius about the Knox offer.
