While everyone else is preparing breakfast--and discussing the revelations made last night--you head to Bunker E to check up on Edison.
...When you arrive, you don't see her in her cell.
Her container is still intact, and the blood you put on it--and on the floor--look undisturbed. Peering through the glass, though, she's just... not there.
Do not panic. Just calmly look around. Have Red look, too.
We could possibly annoy her into coming out by acting like we're indulging her, actually. "Oh no. Edison is gone. Where could she possibly be hiding. How scary oooooh." XD but that level of sarcasm *might* not be helpful to our relationship with her...
The only time it is appropriate to panic is at a disco. Seeing as how there's no disco ball, laser lights, and it's not Nine in the Afternoon; now is not the time to panic. ;)
I'm worried that she hasn't left, or hidden. What if she just... ran out? Poofed? No real appropriate name on this concept, but she was much more active then the other girls. Maybe she burnt herself out?
Welp. After doing Incident F, might we be able to sense electricity now? Heck, Red is kinda a ghost now, so maybe *she* can see ghosts. Let's see if we can see anything out of the ordinary with as many ways of looking as we know.
Let's ask Red about this XD.
Her senses for this type of things must be better than ours... Or are they ours?...
...It's complicated XD.
The point is, let's ask her XD.
I agree with getting red. I bet that it would surprise Edison and that might be a novel enough thing to get her to talk to us a bit without any death treats. If not, some kind and supportive words to the effect of her taking some time if needed.
Hell, now that we’ve been a ghost, maybe we should see if we can replicate bioelectricity from the red. That could only be useful. Although I will admit that I want zappy zap powers.
Exactly! It’s very likely she’s hiding in there. Probably not even to trick us. She might just be extremely angry and upset still and want to be alone.
I wonder if she’s calmed down a bit though. We should talk to her as calmly as possible.
Assume she's there anyway. The blood alarm didn't go off, and we can't see in her tube -- it's possible she's hiding there either because emotions or ambush.
Talk to her. Reassure her. We won't give up on her.
Tell her that we did the thing the scientists did to Faraday, to ourself, and fixed it.
From her data file, she's always been a trickster even before snapping from incident F. I expect her to be real good at hide and seek.
Which is as fine a childgame as it gets, as long as it stays there and doesn't reach Saw territory, unlike last time.
Perhaps "Edison?(if no response)Edison,(if no response)are you alright?" perhaps with a little bit of sad in the voice? we did just give her a timeout for the whole night(more if i remember right). +1
"Edison, please don't do that." Say that and leave, return shortly with Tesla and Faraday.
Also, don't forget to check the ceiling.
Maybe take the time to reinforce your neck/face.
After bringing in the other girls, if she still isn't visible, tell her that you're worried about her and want to know if she's ready to talk yet.
Let her know that it's okay if she isn't ready, too. We don't want to rush her. Maybe buy some children's storybooks as a last-ditch effort and read them to Tesla and Farady (and Edison) in front of Edison's room.
Pretty sure Edison's in there. She's just changed her "frequency" a bit to not be visible.
Might be interesting to start talking to her, ask her about what her life was like before becoming a ghost. See if there's any books she might want to read or something.
Bringing in Red might be good, too, but I'd rather keep the other girls out initially. The stress level rises pretty quickly when they're together right now.
We're not opening that room up to check, for obvious reasons - she has to be in there, she couldn't have gotten out. Call out Edison's name - maybe she's in the tube. If we can't get her to show herself, then just tell her that we're not giving up on her and leave, but hopefully she's willing to hear us out this time. ...Not that I'd know what to say to her.
If we had to ad-lib, telling the story of when we were in the hospital to whoever might be listening might be good filler if we don't have anything in particular to say. Talking about ourselves and what we've gone through would help a lot if she's willing to listen.
What would happen if we took all three ghosts to be "upgraded"?
I'd feel kinda bad about potentially destroying any discrete personality quirks that they've developed by being independent entities, but if they all started out as one dead girl, they might gain something by being merged back into a single ghost (and we likely wouldn't have to deal with fearing Edison anymore). Even more interesting is if we got the original little girl back (alive), but I'd honestly prefer her as a ghost, she's just too cool the way she is.
Except that (I think), it doesn't combine the stuff you offer, it's a trade. As in, you have 10 pencils, you offer them, the tradesmen take them, and give you a colour pencil set that they already had. They keep the original 10 pencils.
My thinking is that we've not got a "people" - we've got three pieces of a single broken ghost - I was thinking it's the equivalent of taking a handful of broken used pencil stubs, and getting a whole pencil (the combined essence that they started out as), or even a full mechanical pencil back (the original little girl). Regardless of how the math works out, I'd not be doing it without asking them first.
As fun as the three of them are, I feel bad for them - they're a DEAD LITTLE GIRL... she might want to continue living her life, and I'm pretty sure that Michelle and Caius are likely sterile, being tube-grown on the cheap - one or the other of them might want a child after all this is done with (assuming any of us live through all this).
On a side note, I've also given some thought to upgrading those stasis canisters that they were "stored" in. Naptime is all well and good, but it might not be awful if we got a container that had some new functionality to it - being able to take Edison somewhere and talk to her without having to risk letting her out would be useful. If we can rehab her then it's a moot point, but we've got the canisters and a ritual, it might be useful to see what we can get out of it - even if we don't use it on her anymore, we've got a whole townful of ghosts still to deal with.
Also, what would be a better ghost, even if we were crazy enough to do this? Would we end up with something like Casper, the Ring girl, or Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man?
I'm prone to think that there is another ritual out there to unite three fragments of an original ghost. Trading them in for a better ghost is NOT a good solution. For all we know, it could work. But a much better direction would be to ask the Tradesmen how to put the three ghosts back together, and see if their price is reasonable. If we can learn it safely, I say we pay the price and look into this method.
While they all started as fragmented ghosts of a little girl, after having their imprints strengthened and, more importantly, interacting directly with others so long to have developed their own personalities....
These are now three distinct little girls. Ghosts they may be - originating from someone else they may be, but they are now each their own person. Doing anything to erase their individual qualities would be murder. Having their own thoughts, feeling and memories makes them people, whether they are ghosts, robots, human beings or other.
To be clear, I was specifically saying that the trade ritual in discussion is one where you give over a bunch of things and get a better version of those things. Give fifty cars, get a better car. Give fifty vials of blood, get better blood. Give twenty-six cameras, get a better camera. The Tradesmen's definition of better is weird, but it is better in some way.
If we turned over Edison and company in that ritual, it would not be to combine them. That's why we need another ritual. That one is for giving up something in exchange. What we need is a ritual to help a lost little girl heal, and that's even if we're considering doing anything of the kind to three seemingly independent girls. Which I don't think is necessarily a good idea.
I'd like to try to knock on the glass, like you would with a door, before entering a child's room. I don't know if that would come off as rude though, in zoos they often have signs to keep people from tapping the glass. If we do opt that way, we should respect Edison's wishes, whether she wants to talk or "asks" us to leave. If there's no response we might try prompting her by name.
Random thought, but do you think Morgenstern ever anonymously comments down here to try and steer us in the right direction? Also, we should see if Edison is OK. The possibility that she has "faded" for lack of a better word is concerning. Maybe contact someone via blood, and have them bring the girls in to check.
HELP
HEEEEELLLP WE NEED FUSE AND WATER AND STUFF
AND MICHELLE WITH THE GHOST GUN
PANIC

+1 even becoming a ghost ourselves if we have to!Her senses for this type of things must be better than ours... Or are they ours?...

We should say calmly "Nice try Edison."
She's a kid so she probably doesn't have the skills to figure out that we don't actually know she's hiding.
I just realized that may not be a good idea. Maybe gently saying her name?
Also, don't forget to check the ceiling.

They can visit when she's in a state where she isn't denying Faraday's existence so hard.
Talk to your inner demon.
Then wake up.

We could ask what would happen if we tried; or what would happen if we used it with people in general. Just to satisfy the curiosity.
