You ask Mom's red if it might be possible to reverse someone's personal timeline in the red. If time can move faster or slow for each person... can it move backwards, subjectively?

"Possible, I suspect. I am not equipped to imagine the repercussions--physically, mentally, or causally."

You also ask what would happen if you shut a portal while someone was half inside it.

The mouth's grin tightens, briefly. "What do you think would happen? Space collapsing is not as tangible as a closing door--merely placing one's foot in the way would not stop it."

You ponder some of things you've learned tonight. What are containers? What are rules? If enacting Incident F has altered your neurological makeup enough to manifest Red as an imprint, what other effects might there be...?

While Red seemed convinced she was just going to fade away a while back, her personality does appear to have taken a life of its own. She's reacting to the revelation of all this... a little differently than you are, personally. She's displaying independence. This might just a deeper subconscious behavior on your part, but... it really feels, to you, like she's becoming her own person.

You consider trying to get her a body--a real one. The cult almost manifested her a physical form, so it's not out of the question. You have a... miniature version of you here in the bunker, but Mini-Mine's brain is so simple, you don't imagine it would be great cramming all those thoughts into there.

You consider trading up more golems, for more Mini-Mines, to eventually get a full scale clone of yourself... but there's probably some weird implications to that. What if the Fake You the tradesmen provide has her own brain functioning on arrival? It would be wrong to override one whole person with a different whole person.

You also consider what you've learned about time in the red. You can exit the red into the past or future; you could, in theory, leave a note for a past-you to warn about future events. That might not count as time shenanigans, for the purpose of whatever entity polices that sort of thing.

...Then again, Red is--at this moment--brain signals given a semblance of form. Thoughts are real. Just the act of giving yourself future knowledge could be dangerous. The error room gave you future-info, but only under the most specific of circumstances; the Library gave you future-info, but they also made it extremely clear that they weren't supposed to be doing so, and couldn't stay long.

...It's quite late, and you're probably not awake enough to be pondering all these strange revelations.

Red rejoins you in your own brain, and you tell everyone goodnight. You head to bed, a little overwhelmed but hopeful about all these new possibilities.

What will you do in the morning?

That 'finally' XD

Thanks for all your hard work on this chapter MM! Congrats on wrapping it up :D all these strange revelations were enjoyable to read as always.

That was great! Hope everything you're dealing with clears up! I hope to be more active for chapter nine!

First thing, check in on Edison, if shes still super angry just leave with a disappointed mom sigh. We could use the info trade to ask a few things about the upgrade trade. like can we put a note in to influence what we get? would upgrading Golems ever produce a person? that kind of stuff.
Twyll 4th Nov 2018, 7:51 PM edit delete reply
I DO think we need to check on Edison, but we need to deal with her anger not with disappointment, but with understanding and love. We want to impress upon her that her feelings are totally valid, but we need to find constructive ways for her to deal with her emotions, because we care about her and her well-being. Basically just being a calm, warm presence is the best thing we can do to gradually work toward bringing her around.

We should also ask if she wants or needs anything. (If she responds "a needle/to hurt you/to kill you" etc., we just answer "sorry, I can't give you that. Would you like an activity to do instead?")
Lunar Waffles 4th Nov 2018, 8:16 PM edit delete reply
Lunar Waffles
yeah, okay, that is probably better, but we can't spend all day on it x.x
Skullrama 4th Nov 2018, 8:17 PM edit delete reply
What Twyll said regarding Edison - negative reinforcement is not gonna be constructive here, probably ESPECIALLY the passive-agressive type. I do agree we should see her first thing.

Tradesmen questions can come next, but listing them out now may be pointless - if we're gonna go see Edison, that's at least one panel, maybe a few updates. Even if it's short enough to move to the tradesmen in the same update, we can decide on questions then.
Tych 4th Nov 2018, 8:23 PM edit delete reply
I agree with that Tywll while I most assuredly think we are going to get a "Kill yourself" and a derogatory remark for an activity we do need to see how Edison is coming along with the anger cause if everyone is right then incident F is again something that just happened to her while MM hasn't said anything to confirm or deny assuming it is the case would be a good way to move forward in actually trying to calm her down also what you said about imprinting Mine and everyone as a warm calming positive presence to her.

After Edison and questions let's use the red to transport the cars in Ilworth to one spot for a trade up ritual.
Guest 5th Nov 2018, 12:54 AM edit delete reply
Give her coloring books.

Manifest Red-Mine around her.
Guest 5th Nov 2018, 2:26 AM edit delete reply
My 2 cents? Projection/Ghost Mine should check along with Tesla and Faraday.
PurpleKetchup 5th Nov 2018, 12:58 PM edit delete reply
Adding my vote to the Edison pile. There has been a distressingly low amount of ghosthugs in this base lately.

Also, sending Red as a ghost looked quick and easy, without tiring Mine at all. She may be a better choice than having Mine use the ghost ritual again (plus that way Mine stays at the helm, which Red didn't really enjoy).
Twyll 5th Nov 2018, 3:19 PM edit delete reply
We could just go in person as flesh-Mine. Sending Red seems like a bad idea because Red has very little experience with people, let alone with traumatized children; whereas Mine is a nurse and is a goddess of love and hugs, which is EXACTLY the skill set that she needs for dealing with Edison. If we need to, we can probably just manifest bursts of electricity from our physical body at this point, or generate electricity in the red, if things go realbadwrong. Also, with our new control of electricity, we might well be able to hug the girls safely while still in our own physical form.

Another chapter in the bag. Speak to the Red about the possible end effects of this contemplation in the morning.

We should check on the pigeon [edit: Caesar, the FATTEST pigeon] we sent toward That One Address while we eat breakfast. Don't forget meditation practice, too! And then we can go check on Edison.

Edit to add a note on Edison: We shouldn't be spending too much time with her at any one time, because that could get overwhelming for her. Instead, we should check in on her regularly in brief visits. She needs time to process things, but also reassurance that we don't intend to abandon her. So, as much as possible, we ought to make our visiting schedule as consistent as we can (even though that's difficult, given how saving-the-world schedules are so very tricky) and just spend small amounts of time with her between other tasks.

We should be calm, cheerful, and warm, always demonstrating to her that we care about her no matter what happens. Abused and traumatized children often try to push people, particularly caregivers, away from them, as a way of trying to take control of the situation: they can't be abandoned again if they reject the caregiver first. When they see that the caregiver isn't going to leave, no matter what, THAT is when they can begin building a relationship on a foundation of trust. On our end, this means that we need to be persistent, but never forceful.
The Chicken Guy 5th Nov 2018, 6:15 AM edit delete reply
Just to be clear, the FATTEST pigeon. It was a matter of great importance, and should be addressed as such.

Author when will you get the opportunity to be back on webtoons? Just wondering...

Just noting that Blood is Drawn is not drawn by Morgenstern if that's what you mean.

Eventually, we will no longer be in possession of Geoangular Control. We seem to have difficulty memorizing it, so if we want to keep using those rituals, we need to copy them somewhere. We've seen pictures on the internet, so copying it is possible. Perhaps Pierce would be interested? We could also make flashcards for the rituals for pocket-sized spellcasting.
Chaostraveler 4th Nov 2018, 11:09 PM edit delete reply
+1 to this. We should seriously contemplate if this is possible, at the same time we can do some thinking about Edison. It might be worth doing the info trade ritual so that we could get an answer to this idea or any ideas to help with Edison and the ghost gals in general.
ReikoLupus 5th Nov 2018, 5:49 AM edit delete reply
Good idea XD.

And we didn't mess around with the possibilities of that book enough. Maybe it has more interesting things that are a bit less... Dangerous than using power from the god that wants to send the universe to the Void XD.
Causticius 4th Nov 2018, 8:51 PM edit delete reply
Shit, shower, shave, and probably hit the streets looking for info, so we can get back to saving the city (since Patton's still technically alive somewhere out there).

...Unless Dr. Finch has found something on that not-mutant-spider-goo found at the power station.
We... did get a sample of that stuff... didn't we?
I kinda forgot if we did or not XD

What's our next priority in taking down Thale? Not saying we necessarily need to do it immediately, but it's good to have the big picture in perspective.
Twyll 5th Nov 2018, 3:09 PM edit delete reply
I would say our next priority is actually Carpenter. He's dangerously unhinged and has Nil inside him, plus he's much more devious and also perceptive enough to predict some of our plans. Thale is going to have to take a while to come up with a new plan, and he moves slowly; Creepenter, however, moves quickly and unpredictably.
lilJoshu 5th Nov 2018, 12:47 AM edit delete reply
You know... Mine is the current God of blood.

Gods often have external manifestations of their inner selves.

Odin had his crows, Loki had fire, most have avatars of some kind, Maui had his sentient tatooes. Mine expressing her subconscious as a ghost seems pretty normal by comparison.
The Chicken Guy 5th Nov 2018, 6:17 AM edit delete reply
Disappointingly normal. I want eldritch abomination blood pigeons.
lilJoshu 5th Nov 2018, 3:09 PM edit delete reply
More functional though. Opposable thumbs. How often has someone wished to have for hands for a task?
Twyll 5th Nov 2018, 3:21 PM edit delete reply
I meeeaaan... there's mini-Mine and the various Sanguines.

I do hope we can eventually become the sort of goddess who rides around in a chariot drawn by cats, though. That would be a very Mine thing.

Hey so, Edison Faraday and Tesla pretty much look like the same person, don't they?(Albeit with different hair and clothing colors.)
Perhaps the same thing that happened to the ghosts girls is happening to Red?
PurpleKetchup 5th Nov 2018, 1:12 PM edit delete reply
Something really nasty must have happened to the original girl, since she left behind her joy, fear and anger in 3 different places, with enough strength for each to become rather strong ghosts to begin with (before Z50 even started boosting them further).

Red feels more complete overall, plus there's the whole half-alien thing. I doubt she'd follow the same recipe as normal human ghosts.
chandler1498 5th Nov 2018, 7:27 PM edit delete reply
Can someone confirm that we have reason to suspect there was an original girl?

I was under the impression we were using "ghost" as shorthand for "personality imprinted on the general area by electrical voodoo that has managed to manifest as an adorable and lovable little girl."

I may just be out of the loop, though.
PurpleKetchup 6th Nov 2018, 4:34 PM edit delete reply
So far, ghosts have consistently looked like human they originate from. I just assume random pulses wouldn't take a human shape on their own.
Leah9572 5th Nov 2018, 4:50 AM edit delete reply
Go check on Edison, and then do the information ritual for the Tradesmen: we've got a lot to ask them.
The Chicken Guy 5th Nov 2018, 6:19 AM edit delete reply
Could you clarify what questions those are? You know, for people that aren't incredible up to date on the happenings of the comments, which I CERTAINLY am? *shifty eyes*
Skullrama 5th Nov 2018, 7:28 AM edit delete reply
Brief summary in sort of order of importance:

Questions about Carpenter, what he is up to, how to deal with him without the backup plan we all know he has killing everyone.

Questions about time shenanigans (phrased hypothetically) and their consequences.

Questions about uptrade mechanics, such as our ability to influence the outcome or if we get the same thing every time if we trade the same thing.

That's all I remember, probably some other relevant stuff.

Whelp, I guess it's cool as to how you produced a short and simplified synopsis of the strengths of each character. From here, I would like to organize as to what I would personally recommend as gear for each character.

-The weird needle shooter thingy that goes into our arm.
-Backup needles (just in case the needle shooter breaks)
-Blooded reinforced bandages (with some sort of cutting weapons)
-Backup pistol

-The weird handgun minigun
-A shotgun
-The ghost gun, I guess
-The scoped pistol for backup (THE BULLET as last resort; I don't see any other character wielding it)

-A sort-of flamethrower to assist with his powers
-A shoe with a hidden fuel source for his prosthetic leg (I don't' want to directly set that thing on fire again, because it may break if burnt too much)
-Backup pistol

-The bone shield
-Some sort of small bone weapon, like a combat knife or a spiked baton or even just spiked knuckledusters, to go hand-in-hand with his close-combat abilities
-Backup pistol

-Since he doesn't usually fight stuff, and therefore has little experience in the ways of defending himself, I have no ideas as to what he could use to efficiently protect himself if such an opportunity arose. Nonetheless, he needs a pistol, and also a pocket knife, if he ever is attacked by something.

-Same as Finch; pistol

This is a list of suggestions based on what the readers have already done, along with things that we probably should. However, you guys have covered enough bases already, so I can't really think of much.
