Morgenstern
You say goodbye to the ghosts, and you head back to Bunker A.

Michelle is trying to yell commands at the new "phone," and Fuse is trying to figure out the alien computer.

You consider trying to blood the computer--however, you couldn't manage regular computers before you started syncing with Fuse. Blooding it wouldn't accomplish much, or worse--without knowing how it works and where it's safe to put blood, you could ruin it.

"Perhaps it's an earpiece," Dr. Finch suggests to Michelle in regard to her small device.

"Ain't no way that thing's goin' in my ear," Michelle replies. "It could burrow in my brain or somethin'."

Caius sighs... and steps forward, holding his hand out. "Gimme tha thing."

"Please do not," Dr. Finch blurts out.

"You were cool with me doin' it!," Michelle shouts.

"I hadn't considered the device burrowing," Dr. Finch states, "but now you've cemented that image in my mind. I cannot recommend anyone placing it in their ears."

"The tradesmen wouldn't give us a brain worm for our cheap phones," Fuse says, before adding, "...probably."

Caius holds his hand out more aggressively. Michelle hesitates, looking from his open palm to his face... and then back to his palm. She gives him the device.

Caius sticks it in his ear.

Nothing happens.

"See?," Caius says. "We just ain't advanced enough to use it, or whatever."

"Maybe it's in backwards," Fuse replies.

Caius, with some frustration, reaches up and turns the object around in his ear so the cord faces in. There's a pause.

He breathes in deep. He doesn't wince much, but you can see one eye straining.

"Yeah," Caius says, "it's goin' in my brain."

"Oh my god!," Michelle yells.

Fuse immediately takes a step back, as if the thing is going to leap out of Caius's ear and into his own.

Dr. Finch draws closer, hands up, but unsure of where to reach. "Take it... wait, no, no no no don't attempt to remove it, if it's actually in your brain that would be very bad. Are... are you sure it's actually in your brain?"

You can see Caius struggling not to freak out. "Yup," he says loudly, the tension apparent in his tone. "It's in there."

Your phone rings. Then Dr. Finch's, then Fuse's, Michelle's, and Caius's own phone.

"...Holy shit," is all Fuse can manage.

"Is that..." Michelle's expression contorts from concern to confusion and back. "That you?"

"I think so, yeah," Caius says with a squint. He squints... harder, and all the phones quit ringing but Dr. Finch's.

Dr. Finch, with some hesitance, answers his phone.

"Yes...?"

"Can ya hear this?," Caius asks. His voice comes out of not just Caius's mouth, but Dr. Finch's phone.

Dr. Finch still looks very worried. "Caius, are you... are you alright?"

Caius nods, seeming afraid to jinx it by answering. "Yeah? It uh, ain't so bad now that tha dangly bit ain't movin' anymore."

. . . .I think we might be using too many resources in these trades.
the new tech is getting rather close to "magic" territory.
Terrac 2nd May 2018, 6:32 PM edit delete reply
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
Blue_Elite 2nd May 2018, 6:32 PM edit delete reply
Ya, we'll need to learn the fine line for getting high-end Earth-stuff specifically (or at least alien tech that mimics it to a fair degree).
One thing you can say about the Tradesmen - They'll always give you more than you bargained for.

Test to see if it connects from outside the bunker to inside? Does it work on Mars? ㅇㅅㅇ

Second that. Especially on Mars. Then go buy two truck load of burner phones

Well. That was more than mildly horrifying. Jane can't look at her own brain, but I'd say if she can safely look at Caius' brain she should do so and see exactly what the phone did and if it can be safely extracted again. If not, then it looks like Caius is now a cyborg too.

This does strongly suggest that we might want to ask the Tradesmen a few questions about this and the computer that BREATHES to avoid any other unpleasant surprises.

Definently agreed.

Good idea.

Cauis....... wow. Ew. Let’s set up a ritual with the Tradesmen, ask them about these strange new devices and how to remove this “phone” safely from Caius.

I am willing to bet Caius can "will" the phone out without harm to homself or the apparatus.
Blue_Elite 2nd May 2018, 6:37 PM edit delete reply
We're completely tuckered out so someone else would have to do the information ritual (since we're just asking for instructions, it shouldn't be too hard for someone else to ask the questions).
If we do do the information ritual, I'd like to ask for explanations of some of the other benign Zone Fifty items we acquired (most specifically the blue cactus which I imagine we'll never figure out on our own what it does/what it's for).

The phone most likely can be removed, it probably has a method to get it too unroot itself. From it's description it does not sound like a device meant to permanently be implant otherwise it attach itself to the skin from the other part as well.

Maybe a button or a gentle tug, but before we try anything lets look at how it interfaces with his brain.

If we can find anything on our own then we can ask the tradesmen.

Edit also.
Maybe Fuse could look around the settings for the OS and find a language selector and hope one from earth is on there.
The problem with that is finding them.
Maybe some sort of universal icons could help until we get to a language list and we could scroll around until we find something we reconize.

Can we also ask what the giant green slime is used for.

Let’s hope this isn’t one of those alien brain phones with the faulty batteries that explode you hear about on the news.

Is there a monitor on the computer that should be named "Elvis"?
Try a monitor? Keyboard?
Madd 2nd May 2018, 6:45 PM edit delete reply

I don't think that's the problem, it's we don't understand anything of it because it's all in alien.

On an unrelated note, there were two spots in Ilworth where the ghost gun reacted. At some point, we should use the ghost strengthening ritual on those spots and see what's up.

Yes! Thank you. I've been thinking about that for forever.
Blue_Elite 2nd May 2018, 7:00 PM edit delete reply
Well that was a close call (I regret nothing!).

We should play around with the new tech a little bit more before going straight to the Tradesmen for info (it may be more intuitive than it looks, we just need to spend more than 5 minutes trying to figure it out).

If we do do Tradesmen, I'd recommend Fuse do the ritual as it'll be easiest for him to understand instructions from the Tradesmen directly about how to use/operate the computer. Also if we can get some cheap info about the blue cactus and the slime cube that'd be great (keep the question cheap: what is it for/what was it made to do/where can we get info about it?).
On that note, let's check our future money box. The money may be worthless to us but the Tradesmen might accept it (what don't they accept?).
Guest 2nd May 2018, 7:15 PM edit delete reply
Can we also get information on the gun in the ! box. Like how it is used and what is it exactly.

For future reference... when trading up tech items, include the user manual.

Lol

There might be something to this idea. Packaging, owner's manual, etc...

Quite the brainstormer there Caius.
While we're doing stuff, did we want to send Fuse through to the Error room with the book? It had come up becfore.
Blue_Elite 2nd May 2018, 9:15 PM edit delete reply
I'm wondering if we should have him go in with the new computer. not!Fuse might know a thing or two and be able to adjust the settings to something we can use.
AE-86 2nd May 2018, 9:43 PM edit delete reply
Worth a shot. Sounds like it would work.
AE-86 2nd May 2018, 9:48 PM edit delete reply
Wait if we hook up a normal keyboard if it types the alien language we could check what letter on the keyboard is the English letter.
