You send your rat closer to examine the strange, tradesman-like statue.

Your rat jumps a little as a voice suddenly emanates from the statue.

"Welcome to Zone Fifty Site Twenty Four... or, as you would label it in your own system: Bunker X."

Even though you are currently visiting the bunker through a rat, the statue seems fully aware of who you really are.

"There are various sub-god entities that wish to aid you, but cannot do so. There are also various entities that wish to see you fall, but cannot interfere. Due to the nature of the research that was done in this bunker, the veils here are... thinner, the rules lax. Thus, an agreement has been reached--a contest of sorts. A gauntlet of challenges. You are free to ignore this site entirely, if you wish--nothing it contains is critical to accomplishing your goals. However..."

The white flames flicker.

"Should you choose to confront the dangers that lie within, you will be rewarded. Each floor of Bunker X has a prize waiting for you. That being said... the contest itself does have a few rules of its own.

Any group that enters a level of Bunker X cannot leave until the level is finished. Once a group has entered the elevator, no one else may be added to that group--the entrance is sealed until the exit is reached. You do not have to repeat any level; this elevator can take you to any floor you have earned access to.

Because the laws that govern reality are skirted in this bunker, you will face enemies that defy logic--foes that should not be here, but were deemed worthy adversaries nonetheless. Challengers that die inside Bunker X do, in fact, die. The forces that oppose you hope that your own hubris will undo you, while the opposite side believes you can handle these challenges and come out stronger for it.

You may take on Bunker X at your leisure. You may choose to do only one floor a night, or only one floor period... or you may attempt to clear the entire gauntlet at once, if you desire. You may change the makeup of the challenging party between floors. Or, yet still, you may choose not to bother with Bunker X at all. It is entirely your option. We can only assure you that the rewards are... exceptional."

Boss Rush Mode with bonus game prizes for finishing with a new time

That is.. Very interesting, and very very good.

BUT, it's unnecessary right now. At least, it's not nearly as pressing of a manner.

Astral Pajama time.

I'm so happy the term astral pajama has stuck, TO THE ASTRAL PAJAMA!

Honestly, this is pretty great.
Once we start making more/better golems/homunculi, could use this place as a testing ground.

Oh, and I suppose we get some good stuff if we win.
That's also nice.

We have obtained the necromancer class.

If we're going to participate in this "boss rush", we should definitely trade in some more weapons.

Ask the tradesman about the tournament's rules. If there are any.

Seconded, we need to know more before we make stupid decisions. Although I am fascinated by the treasures

What happens if we send a meat golem and it does?

This is pretty sweet in fact. Optional Cave of Ordeals. Good question about what to do. The reward is significant, the reward is unknown, but death is death.

Part of the reward will be success and experience. I don't know if we are ready for this now.

I wonder about golem testing as well.

okay, cool. let's uh... let's press the pause button on this. we already have too much to do. we can come back to this.
RemnantSoul 16th Apr 2018, 8:42 PM edit delete reply
Final floor is probably Thale or Lasker
Blue_Elite 16th Apr 2018, 8:45 PM edit delete reply
Final floor is Jane in full-on eldritch-mode. :P

Incidentally the prize is the readers finally learning Jane's real name.
Cruentum 16th Apr 2018, 10:35 PM edit delete reply
Maybe Jane Doe is actually her real name. She's never specified as "A jane doe".

"Big money, big prizes, I love it."

Definitely NOT something to do right now (I think we should go in better prepared) but definitely something to look into later.
I propose the first group should be Jane, Caius, Michelle, and Fuse armed to the teeth to test the waters.
We can try contacting Dr. Finch to see if we still have that resource in case of mysticism; which if we can't, would make for a valid reason to bring him along on some levels.
Madd 16th Apr 2018, 8:52 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, lets hold off on this until we got some more weapons and homunculi.

We should try astral projection next.

Oh, and ask what happens if an underequipped group goes in without us specifically in it and die what happens. (More specifically meat golems.)
Tale Swapper 16th Apr 2018, 8:55 PM edit delete reply
Attempting this seems like a good way to get some... unusual equipment. I, for one, am more curious about these entities which are for or against us. The question becomes; why?
Guest 16th Apr 2018, 8:55 PM edit delete reply
Anyone else get the feeling one of the enemies here'll be Spider-Vasquez?
Swagner 16th Apr 2018, 9:05 PM edit delete reply
And/or Giga-Macland
Cuttlefish 16th Apr 2018, 9:33 PM edit delete reply
First floor: a bunch of the giant mutant rats from Howler's basement.
Swagner 16th Apr 2018, 9:03 PM edit delete reply
Ah, the pit of [however many] trials. If we do go in here, we should bring serious firepower, or better yet, significantly improved blood powers.
psychoshen 16th Apr 2018, 9:08 PM edit delete reply
I think we need more practice under our belt before we try this. We have things we know we can do, but not very well, like pulling from the red, healing, etc.

Let's focus on the rats that are in the tunnels instead?
WalkerOfSorrow 16th Apr 2018, 9:31 PM edit delete reply
I don't suppose there's any chance of New Game+? Come back with all we've learned and all our sweet gear and friends, then stomp this place so hard the curb hurts?
chaosblitz 16th Apr 2018, 10:28 PM edit delete reply
I am super tempted by the word "prizes", but Death is Death, and we don't have TIME to die right now, we have too much shit to do! Let's come back later when we've level grinded a bit more.

So... the challenges...

If someone fails and dies, does the challenge remain the same or does it change if someone else goes in? If the former, makes sense to start each level with a golem or rat to test the waters.
