You start to open the small, reddish box. It's a fairly fragile looking container, but it does have its own handy clasps.

"Perhaps..." Dr. Finch stops you. "Perhaps we should isolate these boxes first. Place them somewhere secure, in the event that something dangerous is contained within."

Elizabeth stares at Dr. Finch. "Do you really think the thin line between you and death is a wooden crate?"

Dr. Finch adjusts his glasses. "I I I just believe it would be better to err on the side of caution--"

"If what waits inside that box is actually dangerous," Elizabeth reiterates, "those tiny clasps would not stop it."

...You do send a message to Michelle that Tesla's canister should get moved out of here. She goes to get Caius to help her mess with the bunker doors, and should be here shortly.

You undo the clasps on the small, reddish container, and open it.

Inside is... a stack of money.

"That..." Dr. Finch pauses, leaning in to focus more intently on the paper bills. "...Hm. Hm hm. That doesn't look... very unusual at all. I wonder if a member of the moving crew may have simply left their money behind...?"

You take a closer look at the money. It does look a bit worn, like it's been sitting in this container for a while. ...On closer inspection still, the date on the top bill suggests it was printed two years ago. ...Which can't be right, if the money belonged to Zone Fifty when they shut down a century ago.

You mention this to Dr. Finch.

"Odd," he says. "Either some mistake has been made, or Zone Fifty had a stack of time traveling currency."

Maybe Thale traded something in the warehouse for money from someone else, and then never got around to picking up the cash because he's already rolling in so much of it? If he got a bunch of these things in a group for cheap at auction, he might be selling off individual items at a higher price.

Crazy, improbable idea, lost money somehow finds its way into that box. Take the money, close an clasp the box and then reopen it.

Oh my god, are we getting into SCP-level weird nonsensical specificity now, that would be amazing. I hope it's this.

Maybe, it could be like that SCP which has different contents depending on what combo you enter

Maybe it just prints legitimate currency? Zone 50 was a government operation, but had to be real subtle about what they were doing which means funding would have been tricky to allocate for some very expensive projects... so maybe they just had a device to simply print/fabricate/etc. their legal tender?

I have to admit, having an effectively limitless store of money would help. Maybe we buy out a competing corporation. Specifically, a biopaste providing corporation.

Elizabeth makes a good point about the dangers, but I'm with Finch on this particular issue. Even something as commonplace as akali metals (sodium, potassium, etc.) can react violently with oxygen and water. Nitrogren triiodide can be set off by the touch of a feather. We can probably assume these well understood phenomena would probably not be stored by Zone 50, but there's already enough weirdness we know about, without going around and just playing with things a government agency deemed not fit for the public.

I'm all for taking the money and resetting the box, seems pretty low risk now that it's already been opened once.

Could be out of time currency. Probably not, but such an item would be a fitting project for zone 50 to observe, declare not worth their time, and subsequently boxed. Should check if its legitimate or counterfeit.

Anyways, that was the easy box. Rest of the stuff looks like it may need a crowbar or other tool to open, so... Time to move the canister?
