You suggest Shirai drop the vehicle off at the 24 hour store you were tracked to earlier in the night. You also ask if there's any other resources she can provide.

"Sure," she says. "I'll leave some things for you. The key will be in the glove compartment, and the passenger side back door will be left unlocked. Pick it up whenever."

You head back inside, and update everyone on what's going on.

"At least we're gettin' a friggen car out of it," Caius says. "Oughta be leavin' us, like, a million dollars for all we been through."

You ask Fuse and Michelle what they found.

"I pulled a lot of information off Howler's computers," Fuse states. "Should be something in there Jury can use. That's, uh... not what held us up, though."

He looks at Michelle, who looks back at Fuse. They sort of shrug at each other before Michelle begins to explain.

"They got some kinda infrastructure under the apartment. Not just under the apartment, but kinda runnin' through the city."

"What are we talkin' like, sewers?," Caius asks.

"Not exactly," Fuse says. "They were like... tunnels, with railways. They run through the foundations of some buildings, they run up through the pillars that hold the tiers up, and they run under the streets."

"Explains how they got Howler's big computer hauled up there without anyone noticin', AND how Carpenter's monster came bustin' outta the floor at the hospital," Michelle adds. "They gotta have a small train or somethin' runnin' through the tunnels... somethin' that can move supplies, or monsters, or whatever else."

"How in the world did they manage that?," Dr. Finch asks. "How elaborate was this infrastructure?"

"It was pretty big," Fuse says. "We couldn't even begin to explore all of it."

Michelle nods. "Some of it was new, but a lot of it... a lot of it definitely wasn't. Some of that tunnel's been there for years, decades or more if I had to guess. They been workin' on that railway system a long time--it didn't just pop up over night."

"What could Thale possibly be planning...?," Dr. Finch ponders aloud.

"I dunno," Michelle says, "but whatever it is, he's been plannin' it a while. There's no tellin' how much of this city those tunnels reach."

The plot thickens. Well, know that we know about it, now we can blow it up/ambush people. They can't report that the tunnel's been compromised if there's no one to report. Or just like sabotage that vehicle's tracks or something.

Otherwise... this sort of thing takes lots of money, time, permits, and manpower to build. Thale has the cash, and can probably put together the permits/forge/secret (whole other bag of worms) the approval, and he could have started on this 50 years ago when Z50 failed... but the manpower eludes me. I suppose they could have used robots, but robots require surveillance or elaborate programming, which requires people, which means we can find someone to squeeze info about it.

We didn't ask Shirai where to find that secretary, did we. Or if she has any reporters tied up in her basement that we could have. Also should check on the robots, see if Jury can talk or something, or if they need something to fix her. Like gloves.

The secretary is a convenient proxy for Thale but likely replaceable. Is getting to her even worth putting ourself at risk?

Alternatively, they're just old subway systems that have been out of use a long time (long enough for people to forget what subways are). That was the lower tier, right? Are there only 3 discrete tiers? They might predate the tiered structure of the city itself.

Well, DANG. So much to think about, in regards to those tunnels.

But I love, just *love*, how Fuse and Michelle had this little tunnel adventure before coming back to rejoin us XD I love those two and their shenanigans so much, this brings much joy to my heart <3

I kind of wanna sit around and talk some more but I think Jane really, really needs to sleep.

Give Fuse a dream-encouraging shot, and then go to bed, I think. And when we wake up with energy enough, we should probably sort out the memory damage first (in Fuse's head, too) before we start tackling the billion things we need to start looking into. (Hopefully Jury will be fixed by then, and the info we pulled from Howler's computer will be somewhat useful.)

I was afraid they had found a pit full of dead bodies or were shot at or found a pit full of dead bodies that shot at them. Good to know they were smoking just to smoke (but bad of them to do that, we MAY need to do an intervention on these people X3).

Agree on getting to bed and whatever needs to be taken care of to do that. Since we're not going to be keeping tabs on Macland 24-7, let's change that Blood Alarm to ANYTIME MACLAND BEINGS TO LOSE CONSCIOUSNESS, since he may "go to sleep" via unconventional methods like drugs or alcohol (or drugged alcohol).

Time to exploooore~! But let’s sleep first, and assist Macland/Fuse in the dreaming process.

Daaaaaaaw.

I like the bandages on Caius. It's... it's been a day for us. We'll have to see what payoffs we get from it tomorrow.

Just wanted to note that while I HATE Macland as a character, I LOVE his dialog. It's like pure venom that's been slicked back and stylized; very appropriate for his character.

EDIT: Just had a thought - as long as we have a way to keep the Nil matter from getting worse, should we have Fuse KEEP it so he can be a guinea pig for trying to remove it? It SOUNDS bad but, keep in mind he'll have a weakened version that'd be perfect for practicing with before trying to tackle Macland's "final boss" form Nil. Also keep in mind, if we CAN cure Nil rather than go the surgical route, that'd mean Fuse would get to keep his memories (although they may still be tainted/modified).

EDIT 2: Assuming, of course, Fuse even has Nil. Moreover, the confirmation process will allow Fuse to make his own decision of if he wants to part with the infected memories or have us attempt to remove Nil while keeping the memories intact.

hug everyone, thank them all for all their hard work, and then go pass out. we can deal with the memory shenanigans and all that later. it’s been a long hard last few hours and everyone is sore and tired. before we go to bed though, double check on caius and see if he needs another dose of painkiller.

Finally caught up! Can we send somebody to get a LOT more rope? it kinda seems like a massive swarm of controllable rope would be REAL useful for physical enemies.
