Morgenstern
You find an open department store with a fairly vacant parking lot to meet Dr. Finch in.

While Fuse, Michelle and Caius do some quick shopping--rubber gloves, extra supplies for fixing Jury with, etc--you text Lydia back, asking if she's okay, and how she knew about the feds showing up.

After a minute or two, Lydia texts back.

"YEH RADIO SCANER"

It seems she's not as talkative via text as she is via verbal conversation. You send her a thank you. You wait for Dr. Finch to arrive so he can start testing Jury, and the canister, for bugs.

Dr. Finch starts with the various parts of Jury. He hmms to himself as he runs his scanner, finally concluding with "Nothing. I am... surprised, to be quite honest--I assumed the government would be attempting to keep track of her, but I'm not finding anything. Though... it's possible that, if the government put a tracer on her, Shirai may have removed it. If this all really was one elaborate setup, Shirai likely intended for you to find Jury before the other agents did."

Dr. Finch then begins to scan the canister. He HMMs more loudly and frequently, getting wrapped up in stubbornly scanning one section of the canister in particular.

"Well..." he begins, adjusting his glasses, "it seems we have a problem. There is most certainly a tracer in this containment unit, but it's not on the exterior surface. It may be inside, or built into its structure somehow. I can't say definitively how deep it's buried, only that we can't simply pluck it off the outside of the device. Removing it without opening the container may prove difficult, at best."

Oh jeez
Time to ditch Edison on mars
I KNOW ITS MEAN BUT SHE LITERALLY WANTS TO KILLS EVERYONE
Blue_Elite 20th Nov 2017, 6:03 PM edit delete reply
The bigger concern is if we bring it back, it'll become obvious where our secret door is when the tracking signal suddenly goes missing or ends up in some other place on the world.
2FABZ 20th Nov 2017, 9:06 PM edit delete reply
TRUE didn't think 'bout that whoops
Blue_Elite 20th Nov 2017, 6:07 PM edit delete reply
Would there be some way to block or scramble the tracking signal? Could we just surround it with something like how the aluminum foil worked?
If we can just block long enough to get the canister to Mars, it'll be pretty much untrackable/unreachable (and then we can deal with it from there).
AlphaDragon 20th Nov 2017, 6:31 PM edit delete reply
That would be sweet if it was that simple.

Gotta figure out a way to block that signal before we move the canister back to base..... or we ditch it in an ally with a note saying "You can have this back, but please dispose of it in an oceanic trench please and thank you?
P.S. Thale and Carpenter are full of shit, I didn't even have a reason to look up who you lot were before people started to try to kill me for no discernible reason."

can we mess with the tracer signal just enough to do a morse code kinda deal i think we need to make some sort of contact with shirari if for no other reason she is both the biggest thorn in our side atm and at the same time the most likley one to flip to our side.
PurpleKetchup 20th Nov 2017, 6:30 PM edit delete reply
Can we just ask Edison to fry or jam the tracer from the inside ?
Baby steps towards potential coexistence. Since Shirai was able to explain her murdery plan, she can probably hear people talking outside her canister... or maybe there's a keypad somewhere to type it in.

Does there happen to be a nuclear power plant anywhere nearby? A spent fuel containment pool might be a good place to put her-- provided we can get her in there without getting shot by the security :P An abandoned nuclear power plant, perhaps?

If there's a tracer, we're not taking that back with us and every moment spent in its company is dangerous.

Maybe we could use it to try and lure Shirai and her goons so we can have a second to talk to her? I'm guessing they'll want to both pick up their expensive toy, *and* think it's where Jane is at. We could drive it to a random secluded area far off, setup our bio-camera with a burner phone maybe and call it when she gets there. Obviously this is all in hope she wouldn't be dumb enough to open the canister again. Ehhhh. Anyway just a random idea :P

Seconding this in the eventuality Edison proves uncooperative.

If the tracer is inside the canister, it's useless unless you open the container.

If it's sturdy enough to contain someone who can actively divert through physical objects via electromagnetism, a tiny little plink-plink of a tracer isn't even going to be heard a few feet away.

Both are electromagnetic radiation.
Tsukistar 20th Nov 2017, 8:04 PM edit delete reply
It could be, like Finch mentioned, built into the strutcure. It doesn't need to be inside of the part that blocks the electromagnetism, just deep enough inside the wall around it to be difficult to remove.
Blue_Elite 20th Nov 2017, 8:34 PM edit delete reply
It's close enough to the surface a bug tracker can detect it. I'm hoping with your logic, however, that Fuse can jimmy a cellphone to distort or weaken the signal enough that we can safely transport it to the bunker and then to Mars.

I'd imagine a phone would be powerful enough to give us several minutes of non-detection to pull that off.

Ah, but you see, being partially inside the canister means that spot is slightly thinner. Electromagnetic resonance from inside the canister would most likely distort the signal heavily.

You see, if it was on the outside of the shielding it would be easy to remove.

If it was in the middle of the shielding, it would be difficult, as well as it would receive interference from the contents as well as the shielding.

And if it was inside.... well it'd be useless unless the lid was off.

So... I mean that's an assumption I'm making, but Heeeeeeeeeey! Is that a bird over there?
*points wildly into the air and runs off*

Take her to Mom's Red. Let them Try and get in there after leaving instructions to
1 keep the contents of the canister inside
2 deny anyone other than us trying to get in entry.
Pop the lid and leave. If Edison want's to get in contact with us she only has to say please.

Just realized something: Why are we doing all this while not wearing gloves so our finger prints can't get lifted from everything we've touched?
Blue_Elite 20th Nov 2017, 8:39 PM edit delete reply
I'm reluctant to do this but just to put the suggestion out there: we can always put the container in a large body of water (given the setting I'm thinking a pool or artificial lake). At least that'd hopefully slow down anyone trying to retrieve the canister and makes sure Edison won't escape to murder at large.

We could also setup a raven to see who picks it up and try to track where they take it.
Auron 20th Nov 2017, 9:50 PM edit delete reply
Can we scramble the signal long enough to get the canister to Mars?
Auron 20th Nov 2017, 9:52 PM edit delete reply
If we can't scramble it see if we can somehow notify the feds of where it is and leave it.

Are there any oceans or lakes handy we could drop the container in?
