It takes another round of messing with the door setup, but you get Michelle a pen and paper, and again disconnect the door from Bunker C with her inside it.

She writes "HELLO" on a piece of paper, and slides it under the door.

You both wait.

After a few minutes, Michelle shrugs. "Maybe it can't read? Or maybe I shoulda given the pen, too. ...I don't think I can fit a pen under the door, though. Maybe--"

The piece of paper is shoved back under the door toward Michelle. The paper has been torn at the end, removing the letter "O" from the greeting.

Yup, second that. Let's hope it doesn't break free once Michelle's out and the door disconnected again.

I don't think there's any risk in trying to communicate tho :/ Mostly I'm just worried, what if they're warning us of it being hell over there and they're trapped somehow?
Twyll 4th Nov 2017, 6:04 PM edit delete reply
Umm. Well I kinda don't wanna leave somebody/something *trapped* in hell, if they don't absolutely need to be there... but I don't know what we can safely do to determine whether that's the case.

Maybe we can find one of those flat bookmark pens and fit that under the door.

We could probably be creative and write messages that can be modified or answered via tearing, at least. Write "friend?" and then slips of paper with "yes" and "no," and see whether "yes" or "no" comes back.
Twyll 4th Nov 2017, 6:34 PM edit delete reply
Maybe "do you need help?" after that.

And, if they don't need help but are friendly, maybe we can just send some cat pictures over to cheer them up and be on our way.

On the one hand I agree with Twyll with wanting to continue communication and at least try to determine if this is friend/foe and if friend, try to reassure them we'll be back.
We could literally write "friend or foe?" and send that through. If we get "friend" great, if we get "foe" then nope, and if we get "or foe?" we can send back "friend."

On the other hand, I can completely understand the "Nope" group and would be fine with leaving at this juncture. Would still want to come back eventually (this is a fairly safe place if that inside is crawling with monsters; we just never use the door again and they're stuck with a prison room at worst).

Actually this might be a good idea, let's try it

If they were a 'foe', though, would they actually tell us? >_> Seems to me that if they *were* a 'foe' they would lie and say they were a 'friend'?
Twyll 4th Nov 2017, 9:47 PM edit delete reply
Not necessarily-- if they're trying to freak us out, they may well say "foe." Actually, a friend looking out for our safety might say "foe" in order to get us to leave, I guess... Point being, we can't exactly take their word for it, but we CAN learn more about them and have a data point to work with.

Sure, alright XD;
Blue_Elite 4th Nov 2017, 10:38 PM edit delete reply
It's basically that "one who always lies and one who always tells the truth" dealie. It's not the answer that matters, it's how you get the answer that matters.

We passed, "Hello" and got, "Hell" back, a negative response.
Now, if we pass, "Friend or foe?" and get back, "friend," that'd indicate someone in trouble (because why the "Hell" warning otherwise?).
If we get "foe" back, then either they are antagonistic or there is some messed up stuff we may what to wait a long, long time to deal with on the other side.
If we get "or foe" back, that'd probably indicate they're trying to keep us out for our own good; in which case we would want to come back but be ready for trouble.

But of course, this is making some major assumptions without knowing WHAT it is that's passing the messages back. Regardless of answer it wouldn't hurt to be armed when/if we meet the messenger.

Very clever. ;>_>

I'd like to know how the letter was torn. Was it a careful tear? Does it look like a claw ripped through it or crudely pulled apart?

This may just be someone/thing that, after a very very long time, considers where they are to be a prison and just a Hell for them (especially if they're lonely). It's also not like they can do much to communicate as it seems they may not have a writing utensil or the ability to use one.

Okay, whatever's on the other side of the door takes several minutes to knock and only knocks the same slow pattern. It understands language enough to tear the O off the word 'Hello' but it took several minutes to actually do that.

Maybe they're severely incapacitated, maybe they're not human. There's something blocking the door, so it might just be it takes a very long time to actually get any communication past that block. It's really hard to say but 'HELL' is a fairly unsettling response.

At this point, without being able to open the door from our side, it's hard to say how we could get a clearer response without finding a better way to communicate. Maybe we should brainstorm that with the others, because beyond sticking a very flat pen under that door, I am not sure of what to do XD;;

Man, I was not expecting *this* from Bunker C...
