Morgenstern
You ask Dr. Finch to call Jury.

You give Lydia's phone number to Fuse, and ask him to call her.

You ask Michelle and Caius to finish up supplying the androids.

You watch your raven.

You watch it follow the armored vehicle.

The vehicle makes its way from the middle tiers to the lower tiers. It drives around what feels like aimlessly, slowing down at times, but mostly keeping an even pace. It doesn't go too far into the depths of the city, mostly making wide sweeps around the upper-lower tiers... before making its way back to the middle tiers.

You suspect that the occupants of the vehicle are scouting things out. This may just be a preliminary run, a preview of sorts.

You're snapped out of it by Dr. Finch clearing his throat. You put a blood alarm on the raven, in case it sees the vehicle stop for any notable period.

"Apologies if we interrupted anything," Dr. Finch says. It looks like Fuse has returned, as well. "Jury says that, legally, nothing is preventing Reigns from hiring military contractors to act as a police force... nor is anything stopping him from tasking them with stopping criminals in the lower tiers. It's only a question of whether he goes through the proper channels to grant the PMCs authority, and if those PMCs can be caught acting outside the role as private police. That being said..."

Dr. Finch adjusts his glasses. "Jury said she will be keeping a very close eye on Reigns' activities. If he so much as forgets to cross a T on the paperwork, the government will be knocking on his door. Thus far Theodore Reigns and Southern Pass are still in the negotiation stages, as far as anyone knows. Oh, and and and she said she'll look into a long term supply for our mechanical friends. Her hands are currently quite full, but she's been provided a copy of the list."

You look to Fuse. Fuse takes a deep breath. "So, first off... you guys should've warned me."

"About...?," inquires Dr. Finch.

"Lydia," Fuse replies. "She was, uh... real energetic. I'll put it that way."

Dr. Finch tries hard not to crack a grin, but eventually fails.

"Anyway, she said she's gonna do some digging on Southern Pass. She wants to find out every horrible thing they've ever done--especially in the line of crime prevention--and spread that info to the public. If people find out what a bunch of messed up psychos these mercs are, they'll raise a fuss about 'em being in the neighborhood. Reigns is a dick, but he lives and dies by his public image... if he's got protesters on his lawn, he might call the deal off."

"How does she plan to distribute the information, should she obtain it?," Dr. Finch asks. "I don't suspect her old news station would happily run that story."

Fuse shrugs. "Dunno. Pamphlets? She sounded pretty pumped about it, so I figured she has something up her sleeve. Also, I did some science--can confirm, we don't get internet on Mars Base. At least, my phone didn't."

You check on the raven again. You watch as the armored vehicle hits the city limits and continues onward, to elsewhere. Whatever they were looking for, they seem to be done looking for it.

Hmm. Well, if nothing else, could try and drum up some bad PR for Reigns as well via yellow journalism (though obviously not through Lydia). For the science front, can we modify the bio printer to be a "normal" printer as well, and/or upgrade it to a more modern bioprinter? Might be good to have paper copies of our own data as well, as a non-electronic backup. Just in case a solar flare or some other form of electromagnetism wipes out the data.

We don't want to do a plan like that ourselves either, we'd need an intermediary, preferably if we can find someone else with an axe to grind as well. Heck, it doesn't have to be yellow even. If we get real dirt and can get it out to someone who'd gladly share it, that'd be all the better. To the web, there's got to be several people that don't get along well with 'em.

Heee. If a solar flare was strong enough to knock out data inside a bunker, we'd have a good chance to be killed by the radiation aftermath. The data... would proooooobaaablllyy not be a first priority.

Most systems are protected by a metal case, which acts as a partial faraday cage against external EmP. It's not a complete one, but the source would have to either be very strong, and very noticable, or right against the computer.

A power surge would be more likely, as that already has a clean path through the shell to the innards, but a circuit breaker or fuse would help to avert that.

I mean redundancy is always a good thing for data, but we have to plan within what our money has. So, judging by what the city is composed of, we're more likely to find some leftover memory cards that can be cleaned out, then squirreled away in various locations as backups.

Just print skin using paper pulp
and EMP will probably not affect such technologically advanced contrivances.

Well, we've got a lot to worry about now...

Is it still a good idea to let the raven follow the vehicle outside the city? Seems to me like it might stand out a bit there, so let's call it back to the street.

Maybe check in with Caius and Michelle as well?
Twyll 22nd Oct 2017, 12:51 PM edit delete reply
I don't think we should recall the raven. We can tell it to be very careful and stay out of sight, but I'd really like to know where these guys are going after doing their recon.
PurpleKetchup 22nd Oct 2017, 3:16 AM edit delete reply
Caius and Michelle should explain to the proto-Juries that we're an independant team who will help them stay operational because their work is critical to us.
Also ask what kind of parts they would need to fix their sisters. They totally feel regret, so let's give them some hope instead.
Blue_Elite 22nd Oct 2017, 3:41 PM edit delete reply
Agreed to finding out if there's a way to get the other Proto-Juries (I'ma just call them P-Js from now on 'cause it's funnier XD) back in operation.

Given the facility was being maintained by 2 P-Js low on supplies, we might be able to recruit the other P-Js for missions or especially to guard/maintain Bunker D (I'm assuming they don't need air and won't die horribly in a vacuum).
Also I don't think we've hugged any robots proper yet.
The fan page really should have a list of people/things we've hugged. ;)

>The fan page really should have a list of people/things we've hugged. ;)

I am fully in support of this idea. I'll try to make one soon. (Unfortunately cannot brain today, but maybe will be able to soon.)

Hmm.. maybe we could get the info about reigns plans to sherai. I would think she would be opposed to them, and maybe they could occupy each other for a while.

Also, I know we have 3 ravens, one is following the APC, and we should call that back.
One is (if I remember correctly) keeping watch outside Macklands house?
Does anyone know where our last raven is?

And speaking of Mackland, let's check up on him real quick.

*Edit*
I would still like to know what's behind the doors when the magic door is not connected. Specially on Mars. Personally I would place storage there, since it is very easy access, and fairly secure.

*Edit 2*
Did we get the access codes from Jury? Just to make sure if we actually are in the facility she intended?

The thought of Fuse being overwhelmed by Lydia's excited chattering makes me smile XD

I'm all for checking in on Michelle and Caius, and still wondering if the Inities need any further help in terms of their self-maintenance. And also asking if they possibly know of the existence of other similar facilities, just to confirm if Dr. Finch and Fuse's theory is true.

We still haven't quite gotten around to using the Club Elegance list that Fuse saw, and cross-referencing it to anything Shirai owns. We could extend that to cross-referencing it also with anything related to Reigns, or Thale. It might help with narrowing down persons of interest that might be useful in digging up more dirt we can use to expose the conspiracy.

By the way, when Dr. Finch was reverse-engineering (sort of, at least in theory level) StQ, was he able to isolate the specific military-grade hallucinogenic compounds involved? If he was, I was wondering if we could use that information to find out all the sources of those particular compounds to help narrow down suppliers involved in StQ production. If we cross-reference potential suppliers of those with buildings that Shirai owns, for example, we might find something? While Thale is busy trying to handle Reigns growing too big for his britches, it might be a good time - while he's distracted - to strike at a source of StQ, or at least a supplier of a part of what makes StQ, for what Caius calls a 'shakedown'. Maybe? Just a thought.
Macheman7 22nd Oct 2017, 2:58 PM edit delete reply
Macheman7
Seconded that we should strike at StQ dealers.
Blue_Elite 22nd Oct 2017, 4:00 PM edit delete reply
Suppliers, not dealers. The dealers have (from what we've gathered) zero clue who produces StQ and trying to find out from them is a fruitless endeavor.

Mainly we'd be looking for a building or place that's actively producing (not just distributing) StQ and see if we can a) find out how it's made and b) establish ANY connection with the list of names we have.

Quick update: roommate's room got bug invaded, we ended up having to bug bomb the house. His bed is currently in the backyard. We slept about four hours apiece, spent half the day at a laundromat.

Added a thing to the GAG: ORDER Kickstarter. If you donate even $1, you'll get the original book in PDF form.

Comics gonna be slow comin' still.

Oh no :C

If they're bedbugs, diatomaceous earth is your friend! Just slather it all over everything, vacuum up and repeat as needed.

Poor you and Broomie! :'D I hope you guys at least have a bug-free environment now. Also hope Broomie gets his bed back soon. ;;;

Also that's a *really* neat addition to the pledges. Is it possible to get some kind of fixed button link just for the duration of the Kickstarter somewhere on BiM? Just so it's easier to find?

Anywho don't worry about slow comic updates~ -v-)/ understandable!

I endure the update schedual of WHOOKOS, and that's like... fkn yearly. You could post updates once every 2 days and I'd stick around.

Not joking about WHOOKOS, one update a year. Jebus Duce.

Yikes. Yeah, the bug invasion alone would be pretty nasty as it is, but with the lack of sleep compiled on top of it... Oof. Completely understandable as to why things'd be slow goings, man.

As the others had said, take care of yourself first. We'll be happy to wait (gives me time to trawl the archives for hug pages <3 ).
Dragon_ANGL 23rd Oct 2017, 1:03 AM edit delete reply
Oof. Well, at least you were able to discern the problem and are solving it quickly, yes? For the kickstarter...might get more people to get ORDER, but GAG's sales might drop. XD
