Morgenstern
You, Caius, and Michelle go on a quick shopping spree, hitting up whatever stores are close by and not too public. You pick up the parts that Fuse thinks he'll need, and you take them back to the motel.

"Alright," Fuse says. "This... should do it. I did a few quick searches online while you were gone--I don't totally get it, but--"

"I got ya covered," Michelle says. "I ain't a hacker, but I could put one of those locks together if I had to. We'll figure it out."

You ask for Michelle's keys so you and Caius can go get her truck. She agrees, and you and Caius head back to Dr. Finch's place.

You keep an eye out--there's still a government tracker in Dr. Finch's home, and you know at least a part of Thale's forces know the address. You don't see anything suspicious, though.

You drop Caius off, he starts up the truck, and with two vehicles you begin driving back to the motel.

On the way there, you ask your red about the strange door, and if it's anything she's familiar with.

"Not me," she says. "Mom's external red that you met is physically attached to your house. It was a similar lock, but the door wasn't a portal--Dad just put a door between the basement and Mom's ship. Red is like a pocket dimension, I suppose... but it's not really separate? I'm not sure how to explain it. It's like you have two insides--one big inside, and one small inside. The red is your big inside. Your small inside is... well, your lungs and such."

But if that's... how it works, then when you travel through your own red teleportation style, that means you're--

"Turning yourself inside out, yeah. Basically. A fully detached, external zone in another spacial plane--or just with a dislocated door--that's... hmm. Other aliens do exist... maybe it's one of theirs."

You add that Mom's red mentioned folding itself into another dimension... or something like that.

"Did it mean folding itself into a different world, or did it mean folding itself out of 3D? Anything can be folded that way if you fold it enough times, though I wouldn't recommend it."

You sit in silence for a while as that last one sinks in.

You finally add that the difference between 'two insides, one bigger' and 'a different dimension' feels... semantic? Confusing? You're not sure what the difference is.

"One's inside you but isn't confined to Euclidean geometry," she says, "and the other is a separate instance of reality. It's easy. Separate realities would be two different big things. You're a big thing crammed inside a small thing inside one of those big things." Red pauses before adding, "we need more words. Sound wave to brain signal communication is never gonna take off if the vocabulary's so limited."

Eventually, you and Caius make it back to the motel, now with a car and a pickup.

"We're gettin' there," Michelle says.

"You might... have an hour or two to play with," Fuse adds. There's various wires and scrap scattered all about the bed. "It's not that hard, but it's... thorough. Three kinds of authentication is kind of dirty."

Dr. Finch has taken up scrawling on a small notepad, muttering various theories to himself about what the door could be.

First off, let's check Michelle's truck for trackers and the like, just to be sure.

Hmm... Ask Red to project herself and check who (aside from Fuse) can see her.

So there are other aliens. Coo-wait how do you know this

Apparently there's some sort of 'blood-speech' or whatever that mom's Red attempted to do, maybe we could learn that?
Also, while vocabulary is limited, it's the best method we got here because humans aren't the same being with two minds, and our blood doesn't move like that.

we should tell finch that jury hid some of his research in his house but had to destroy most of it, and offer to cleantex him later if he wants to write it down again. also, i'm interested to hear his theories on the door and what it could be. it's been a few days since we've had some time to just... chat with finch. i feel like that's a good use of our time.

I'm reminded that when we tried figuring out the longevity trick on our own, we thought that we needed Dr. Finch to really start figuring it out. So actually once Dr. Finch has gotten some sufficient nerding out done on the door, we could potentially begin the process of asking about the longevity trick and knowing where to start with it?

More words? XD I think a big thing crammed inside a small thing crammed inside a big reality makes sense to me I guess. Kindasorta.

Some thoughts and ideas:
a) Chatting with Dr. Finch is always nice.
b) Checking in on Macland makes sense, right? See if Knox/Ges is up to no good.
c) Speaking of which we totally forgot about the reporter in Macland's home; might have been something to tip Jury off on. Caius knows where Macland lives, right? With Macland hospitalised and Knox away, security might be relatively lower than usual at his home. Would it be worth sending a birb to just check out the perimeter, see if anything unusual is happening? Do we still have a reporter to try and save? (This is something we can attempt once we have a safer base of operations to go from, I suppose.)
d) Check the news? See how things are in general between all the tiers.
e) We could practice defensive moves on Caius and have him train us up a little bit without syncing.
f) Uh... get food and beer?

Okay, I'm not saying we can do all those things in the space of an hour or two XD I'd prioritise checking up on Mackey and pokomg at Dr. Finch's blown mind, though -v-

(edit: "pokomg"...)

re: point c, i went back and re-read the conversation between the guards in elegance. knox says he "just got done" beating the shit out of some reporter. so... she might not be in mac's house any more. unless they killed her, she could very well be out and about and understandably keeping her mouth shut. we saw the pictures of her in macland's head, right? can we cleantex ourselves and see if we've ever seen her somewhere before? like on tv or with her picture next to a column in a newspaper or on the footer of a web article? we might be able to get her name, and then we can start maybe actually looking for her. if we do find her, and she's still alive... we need to get her to jury.

Now I wonder if our Red knows what those other ayyys could be or if she could only make a guess as to whether any of them are like... nearby or somethin'.

Anyways, I'm thinkin' that rufi has the right idea here. Check up on Mac, then pick at Finch's brain.

Can- can we go in the possibly reality shattering bunker?

help i need assistance here
Akasha 28th Sep 2017, 6:41 PM edit delete reply
That's kinda the plan, yes. Mind, not /right now/. Still need an hour or two for Fuse and Michelle work on making a key to actually bypass the lock that's preventing us from going into the bunker.

I'm curious about when Red did this "folding experiment" to find out the results were kinda bad.

Sneaky, sneaky. She's clearly been entertaining herself. ♥
