Much debate ensues about who should go to pick up Dr. Finch.

"They'll recognize me and Blondie," Michelle says.

"They'd recognize any of us," Caius counters.

"They wouldn't recognize me," Fuse states, "but I can't legally drive and kinda stand out."

"What, no--" Michelle starts, but immediately has to fight back laughter. "They... you... what d'ya mean, Fuse?"

Fuse just stares at her for a second, trying not to grin himself. "No, you're right, nobody's gonna think twice about the green haired mummy pulling up in his one-sleeved, half cooked jacket. Maybe I could unwrap the bandages... they'll just think Dr. Finch is good friends with some very large bacon."

Eventually, you all conclude that you and Caius should be the ones to go. There's a briefer discussion about how to conceal Caius.

"Shaved head, no suit, no shades... I think this is about as disguised as I'm gonna get," he says.

You ask Dr. Finch to 'call his ride,' and to meet you a few blocks from the hospital. That should give him ample time to see if he's being followed.

You and Caius load up into your car and you head that direction. Caius drives so you can keep tabs on Dr. Finch.

Dr. Finch successfully signs himself out.

He makes the phone call.

He walks out of the building.

Though he mostly tries to stare straight ahead, your ability to perceive through him extends beyond his field of vision. You keep an eye out for any suspicious behavior.

From a window several stories up, you spot Knox staring out the window. He watches Dr. Finch go, only leaving the window once Finch has turned the corner. You tell Caius.

"If tha feds an' Thale were really all in it together, they coulda delivered him straight to Gesenai's doorstep. I'm thinkin'... somebody in tha feds is in on it, maybe a bunch o' people, but I think it's a double agent thing. Someone in that bunker tried to put Dr. Finch in a spot where Knox could off him... but they can't press the attack too much, or they tip their hand. This shit gets any deeper we're gonna need wadin' boots."

Once you're confident that Dr. Finch isn't being followed, Caius swoops by and you pick him up. You all take a different, longer route back to the motel, giving you ample time to spot any potential tails. The coast seems clear.

"What... what was all that about?," Dr. Finch asks.

"Knox--Mackey's guy with the scar. He knew you was comin', somehow. You got sent to that hospital on purpose."

You're barely even sure where to start. How would Knox even know who Dr. Finch was? Surely Knox hadn't seen the livestream...? Who told Knox that Dr. Finch was coming?

"I ain't no genius," Caius says, "but y'want my take? I'd bet you a five spot Knox is on Queen."

Dr. Finch adjusts his glasses. He still seems nervous, and you share his sentiment--this did seem too easy. Though, it may just feel that way because everything else lately has been so hard.

"I, on the other hand," Dr. Finch states, "AM a genius... and I'm rather inclined to agree with Caius. Though Macland Row himself may not have been under Thale's control, his bodyguard may very well be. And, on the subject of intertwining power plays with unaware subjects--we may... need to make a quick stop at my home."

You ask what for--Dr. Finch's house might still be monitored. He nods, and heaves a small sigh.

"I can't say with any certainty... but if I were the government, and I released the highly suspect but unhelpful Dr. Finch back to the public, I would put a tracker on him. Or rather... in him, while he was unconscious and opened wide for a surgical procedure. I have a device at my house that can detect such a thing, should our friends in the government be half as canny as I am."

On the one hand, Dr. Finch has a point--those surgeons in the bunker could have put a tracer in Dr. Finch.

On the other hand--though your raven lookout hasn't spotted anything unusual going on at Dr. Finch's place, you haven't actually been inside it since the incident with Carpenter. There's no telling what else the feds have left there. You ask Dr. Finch if there's anywhere you can maybe buy a new one.

"A standard metal detector could possibly spot a tracer..." He trails off a bit, taking a breath. "But... but but but, if the device isn't made of metal, perhaps utilizing a chemical signature for local searches in lieu of the GPS standard, we'd need something more thorough than a metal detector. My personal device was, unfortunately, purchased online from a rather... rogue website. I wouldn't know where to begin searching for something similar in this city."

YAAAAAAAY FINCH

I'M SO HAPPY YOU'RE BACK AND AS SOON AS WE HAVE TWO FREE ARMS AND YOU'RE NOT IN THE BACK SEAT WE'RE HUGGING THE CRAP OUTTA YOU

and fuse is hilarious. i love him very much.

we could just drop finch off at his house. if he can find and deal with the tracer on his own, he can take his own car and come meet us at the motel. ... maybe a different motel. we should be cautious about staying in the same place for too long. so there's a plan -- we drop finch at his place. he gives himself, his car, and anything he might deem necessary to bring with him, a good and thorough sweep with his detector. meanwhile, we swing back and pick up michelle and fuse and all our stuff. once finch is certain he's clean, he comes to meet us at a fresh motel.

Glad Finch remembered something I mentioned way back during the initial surgery scene... cuz I had already forgotten about it XD

Can we use our blood to search for a possible tracker? Can our blood seek out foreign bodies in Finch's system? If we can seek out particular bacteria, surely something like a tracker should be something we can find.

Is there any way Jane could detect such a thing using her abilities?
24th Sep 2017, 12:18 AM edit delete reply
But... but but but, even if she can, they'd be ill equipped to remove it in a cheap motel room.
Baeronius 24th Sep 2017, 2:34 AM edit delete reply
Baeronius
Remove it? She can just crush it and worry about it later. Or dissolve it.

Oh, speaking of going to his house, which we probably want to do anyway, tell him about prophet- and the fact that we have a rather disgusting syringe full of grey... blood, though... it's probably not blood the way we know it. Science it. Also discuss possibility of Miss Immune working for Thale with STQ vs. being Mom's blood thrall.

oh! yes! i had a theory about that! prophet was probably to thale what finch is to us. by which i mean, most of prophet's blood was probably Queen, and by extent, shitty, badly working bio-printed blood. given he was as much of a zealot as he was, there's no way he only took the drug once.
Akasha 24th Sep 2017, 12:18 AM edit delete reply
Man, it's good to have Finch back with us. In any case, seeing if it's possible for Jane to use her blood to dispose of the tracker sounds like a good idea. Then maybe we can get to work on debugging Finch's place, if the group feels up to going back there. ...That, snd, well, if there's stuff /to/ remove bugs and the like from.

i would not recommend staying at his house any more. carpenter knows where he lives. as long as he's around, i don't think the house is safe to be in for too long.

gesenai also knows, buuut... she's honestly way less of a threat than carpenter.
Akasha 24th Sep 2017, 12:37 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, point. Mind, at the very least, maybe it wouldn't hurt to do a dash and grab for anything that may be handy? Mind, I'm not entirely sure about that either, though, but... Eh.
Mochi 24th Sep 2017, 12:39 AM edit delete reply
Mochi
oh hey also

we know the name of the hospital, i'm assuming. can we find out if gesenai owns the building? because i bet gesenai owns the building.

Also, since everyone seem to have forgotten, Weren't there vials filled with our blood there? Hope feds didnt get their hands on those.

we did try to feel the syringe finch offered to the agent, and failed. so... something happened to the sample, but we're not sure what. we kind of assumed it was emptied out or destroyed somehow.

on that subject, though, can we ask finch to elaborate on what he told the agent before gesenai's goons showed up? and if he has any theories on why the agent seemed to be immune to the bacteria?

Hm. I wonder if we could use our blood to detect any changes or anomalies in Finch's body? We do have quite a bit of blood in him...

I guess we could drop off Finch with, say Caius, and let the two of them take one of the spare vehicles at Finch's to our new temporary base?

Though we'd also need to check those vehicles for tracking devices, probably.

Like... for instance... THE TIRES?
Mochi 24th Sep 2017, 3:30 AM edit delete reply
Mochi
i highly doubt anyone actually expected us to steal the tires off prophet's shitty car :P
Baeronius 24th Sep 2017, 3:55 AM edit delete reply
Baeronius
Really? I mean, they slashed our tires, then left their vehicles by the side. If they came to confront and kill, then yes they would have a surprise in case they were defeated.

On the other hand... if it wasn't their intention to fight, but we did anyway, (such as they wanted to fear us into a conversation) they wouldn't have bothered because they didn't think it would be a mortal confrontation.

I mean logically, it's pretty sound.

i can almost guarantee that prophet went in that building expecting jane to be the one stabbed in the chest. he expected to walk away. he didn't expect jane to go into a blind rage and rip him and his team several new holes and leave them rotting in a hell hospital.

Not for right now, but when/ if we have some downtime, can we teach Caius how to drive? It's not much, but it might come in handy in a pinch.

EDIT: Also, I second hugging Finch.

I agree we should try to use the blood to detect any devices. Preferably before we go near the hotel or Finch's place.
Also teaching fuse to drive might not be a bad idea.
