Once Caius returns, you start the process of trying to load everything downstairs. You have to partially break the ventilation shaft to make it wide enough, and even then it's a pretty big struggle getting Michelle and Caius to fit through the opening and exit. You all grab blankets, pillows, and the only mattress you own that can fold, and shove it all downstairs.

You also warn everybody about the door to your mother's red, and that it's all skin walls and huge mouths back there.

"So this is it, huh? We're hidin' in a dinky hallway," says Caius.

"We might be scoping out motels after tonight... this is just kind of an emergency deal," responds Fuse.

You fill everyone in on what you've found out--that the blood on Mars may have been from some mortal enemy of your mother's, and that there might be some sort of subconscious alien super hate embedded in TH's bioprinted blood.

You and Michelle both express your thoughts on the federal agent. It's clear that the agent is hiding something, or isn't giving their whole story. You tell everyone about Zone Fifty, and that your father used to work there, and that they were aware of your mother by the end of it all. You don't have much evidence for it, but you have the faint suspicion that whatever the federal agent's angling at, it may be picking back up the agenda of Zone Fifty.

If that's the case, then whoever she's working for is not likely to have the world's best interests at heart.

"They're prob'ly after TH, too," Michelle says, "but that don't make 'em our ally. If they're really Diet Zone Fifty, then they'll want Blondie AND TH on an autopsy table. We might convince 'em TH is a legit threat and a bigger priority..."

"...But," Fuse picks up where she drifts off. "Even if we do, and they help us bring down TH, they're gonna do it with the intent of capturing us right after. We can't really trust the feds... doubly so if they're gonna keep lying to us."

"You can't trust tha government," Caius pitches in. "Even with tha friggen apocalypse goin' on, they're still tha government."

"It still leaves the question..." Michelle ponders aloud, "if she wasn't really lookin' for signs of Blondie, what was she here for?"

"The red." Fuse states it flatly enough that it catches Michelle off guard. "I mean... what else would she be looking for? She might've thought she'd find a way into somebody's red in this house."

"That's a pretty fine detail to be lookin' for, though," Michelle replies. "Like, even if the feds know about aliens an' stuff... would they know about the red? How would they know what to look for?"

"Seriously," Caius adds, "I'm part of tha team and I don't even know what tha hell is back there. I ain't plannin' to find out, neither."

"Zone Fifty hocked off all its old documents, right? Maybe the government bought a bunch of them... or had copies made. I mean, Zone Fifty was technically a government agency, they had to have some oversight somewhere."

"Would Zone Fifty documents cover the red?," Michelle prods further. "They never captured Blondie's mom, right? The bioprinted blood doesn't give a red, or every junkie in the city would be talkin' to space mouths. The only people with real, straight up alien blood are Blondie, MAYBE TH, and--"

There's a pause. Michelle's eyes widen.

"Holy shit, d'ya think Lasker had a red? Or like... could tap into the red that the Mars monster had?"

There's another lingering pause, everyone's minds turning. Fuse is the first to speak up again. "...Lasker turned into a monster, right? Like, his blood freaked out when the real Mars blood and the fake Mars blood met, and he..."

Stretched thin, you say quietly.

"Yeah," Fuse nods. "That's the thing we're worried about TH turning into, yeah? And the thing you could have been, if you didn't have control... just a straight up space god thing tearing its way out of a human body."

"What's your point?," Michelle asks, almost defensively.

"What the FUCK happened to Lasker?," Fuse asks. He says it loud enough that it echoes along the hallway. "If they killed him, they have a way of killing the giant stretched blood aliens and we need to start sweating now. If they didn't kill him..."

There's another uncomfortable pause.

"...Then he left the planet, or disappeared into the Mars red, or..." Michelle trails off.

Caius is the one to finish the thought, the only one willing to say it out loud. "Or they still got him somewhere."

Oh GEEZ. I just assumed Lasker died after he freaked out like that, I didn't even stop to consider what would have happened to him. Well, freaking hey, it's suddenly really likely that ZONE FIFTY STILL HAS HIM SOMEWHERE. Performing sick experiments on him is likely, but... man. They must have discovered a lot of stuff with Lasker pertaining to The Blood The Blood, and the red. They may have potentially discovered quite a lot with him, actually; could be why the Fed lady was immune? I dunno, just a stray thought.

My hugest worry now is that they're taking Dr. Finch to wherever their base is, which may be where Lasker is. And if they harbour suspicions that Dr. Finch has Jane's blood in him, there's no telling what in the hell they're going to try to experiment with, with Dr. Finch, what with their access to Lasker. Our only hope is that their efforts would be delayed or postponed temporarily because Dr. Finch is so sick and isn't in the position to be experimented on properly. I hope that buys us enough time to resupply, friggin' figure out where he's at and then GET HIM OUT OF THERE.

It makes a lot of sense that the Fed was looking for the red or something like that, now that I think about it. It explains things. They must have found out something about Lasker's red that makes them see some utility in it enough to try and find another red. Furthermore, I'm glad we sent Caius in to stop her search when he did, because she might have eventually found the vent. Unfortunately that means she might come back to have another crack at it. Uh, I know we kind of broke the vent but can we fix it again when we leave? XD;;;; Damn it.

Main problem with getting him out of there being due to the alien blood in him... he's gonna want to kill us on sight unless he's still got a bit of human sanity... and even then that just means he'll put off doing it till we get him to a point he can make it on his own. Saving unforeseen circumstances that change that.

Oh right. Misread that a bit.
......... I really hope some government egghead doesn't get the brilliant idea to inject Finch with their own stock of alien blood and see what happens. might make Finch go a bit... bloat-y or explode-y. Not entirely certain which.

Okay, so.
If we can potentially stop human aging, or at least give it a severe kick in the knees, can we do something along the lines of making sleep not necessary? The amount of "cheating human" might be large, though. Not sleeping tonight would probably be a good idea, though, because that vent, and our sleeping in here, seems a great candidate for someone walking in a dropping knockout gas down the vent and abducting or killing us all. At least make it look the way it was.

Also, keep a very close eye on Finch, because they're probably going to do experiments on him since he's blooded. Or kill him outright, if the FBI/fake FBI is Mars blooded. Which they probably are, considering.

Consider the possibility that we might be a greater help to our friends as a giant space monster rather than a fleshy human. But then, I suppose we're rather attached to our humanity.

Ask Mom's red what externalizing Our Red could be like, as far as time taken and benefits thereof.

Maybe... Maybe give everyone a blood sedative to help them sleep as much as they should.
I haven't been reading comments the last few comics (pressed for time), so if any of this has been repeated, my bad.
Kitty 9th Sep 2017, 11:09 PM edit delete reply
Perhaps we could sleep in shifts? We could even use our blood powers to make the sleeping people sleep better, and the awake people more alert, as long as we wake up for the shift change.

Or we could sleep in Mom's red. That might be the best option here, since we're already down the vent, and then Mom's red could be the one standing guard. Caius may not be super-pleased with the idea, but it might end up being the safest option.
Varil 9th Sep 2017, 11:36 PM edit delete reply
I think the implication is that as a giant space monster we probably won't care about our friends. Mom's red implies that humanity is a lot 'smaller' than what we could be, in a literal and metaphorical sense. I think we'd probably lose 'us' if we let things get that far. I'd like to edge closer to what we could be, but every step we take makes it harder to go back. Maybe impossible.

I think taking sleeping in shifts works for tonight.

I don't think *not* sleeping is a good idea at this point because Jane is emotionally, physically and mentally drained. Using her blood powers exhausts her and she needs to recharge. The only way to surpass that limit is to stop being human entirely, but as we've noted, we're attached our humanity.

The corridor is hidden from plain sight in this house, making it as safe as we've got for now. We've got mom's red down here too, who can pull all the freaky shiznit if it has to. I don't think it's so bad we can't risk for one night's rest.

That friggin' mic, though. XD;;; Glad the issue was resolved by switching comps. I hope that isn't too problematic!

Hunh? So switching computers fixed the issue? So it was the same equipment etc... hmm... sounds like it could be a group of things. Could be a few things. From your drivers needing an update, or the audio card breaking down (depending on age of computer).
It could also be a conflict of the data streams. If 2 things are trying to use the same connection inside your CPU, they can merge and effectively create garbage.
The most I can think of is an antivirus scan turning on, or some other program suddenly demanding the connection.

Did you get those hush-puppies? Or was that your roomer?

Okay...fair enough. Though I would like to remind you that this group has its own surveillance.

After Jane or Fuse checks the dolls/stuff animals for listening devices, make sure the bed is drawn as close to the vent as possible. Another thing...don't we already have mouse/rat? It could hide under the bed and watch for movements towards the parents room.

Jane reassures them that these are all valid concerns, but they all need rest.

On the other hand, they could take to sharing skills the old fashioned way, Jane could advise Michelle on how to toughen her mental defense. Then Jane learns some basic hand to hand,C gets quizzed by Fuse on basic and not-so-basic devices, then finally Fuse gets updated on current tube cop code...to better intercept information.
