You take a moment to try and figure out where the sound is coming from. You look upward, but you don't see any light from the roof--like something is blocking it off. It's hard to tell where the sound is coming from inside the ventilation shaft, but it feels like the vibrations are stronger higher in the vent. The fan is likely spinning above you, closer to the roof.

You faintly detect a rotten sort of scent.

... is there a corpse in the vent? ask fuse if the smell is stronger below us, like if it's coming up from where we were. if so, it's probably gas. tell him to hold his breath and drop back down. we can't go up and if we stay in here we'll die, so we have no choice but to go back to the hallway.

if the smell isn't coming from below, ask him to pass us his lighter so we can investigate the potential blockage.

a better, safer idea for light is to use the flashlight on our cell phone, which i assume is probably still a thing in this future setting. you know, to avoid exploding or setting fire to things.

Like Mochi asked in the last page - is it possible to bleed into the vent, block out the gas from below and then pop the fan out from the top of the vent? XD;

Jane had to lose a fair bit of blood to control the vent last time. After the axe blow earlier I'd rather not waste anymore.

Rotten scent... decomposition is usually made of gas heavier than air. It's coming from above. Usually flammable too. Get the hell out of the vents from where you entered.

Check the extinguisher from that other room. With a bit of luck it's a carbonic snow extinguisher.
If it is, spray a generous amount on the electrified door handle - it's made of metal; long exposure to carbonic ice will make it cold and brittle enough to shatter on impact with any decently hard object.

Wait... rotten scent? Does it smell like rotten eggs? If so, it's natural gas being pumped in! They're planning on blowing us up!

updated fuse's blurb on the fan page to include the fact that he's now got michelle's combat training/experience. look at our little badass go, what a good boy he is.

Hmm, this one I think MM may need to clarify but I think if this page's info is accurate, then the information from syncing doesn't stick:

"Holy shit. Holy shit," exclaims Fuse. "So we like... hive minded? A little? But it stuck. You don't remember all that computer stuff you got from me, do you?"

You shake your head. It's there, a little bit, but you couldn't replicate any of the things you did while synced, you don't think.

"Maybe it's like... a book," suggests Dr. Finch. "While you're synced, you have each others' books in front of you--it's easy to know how to fire a gun or work a computer while you have the book in front of you. Unless you study the book, though, you'll only retain so much when the book is gone. Fuse... retained a little of what he'd glanced upon in your metaphorical book."

So we might have to edit it a little to account for that, maybe? (Though it obviously doesn't make Fuse any less of a badass. :P)

ah, that's a good point. i'd forgotten that. clarification would probably be good.

Yeah, most of what you have while synced doesn't stick. Muscle memory stuff like combat training is actually harder to "keep" than information you can just memorize.

okay, thanks! i'll fix that and add a clarification to it on the skills page.

Is there any particular place where we could maybe see all this fanart compiled together?

I have added a fan art section to the Fan Page above! :)

Forgot to check if it was the latest page before my previous comment. So the fan's elsewhere - I still advocate peeking around corners of the vent, there might be more booby traps hidden within (or even people forced/controlled to hide in the vent, where they could (A) attack the heros and/or (B) block the vent if they're killed). Also, can we use the bload-soaked bandages as a pseudo filter mask - to protect against air/gas-based attacks?

ideally we'd want some sort of activated carbon or charcoal filter, but if it's an utmost emergency a wet rag would work as a short-term solution for some chemicals. i wouldn't put it past these people to use acid in sprinklers or something, though. they really, really want jane dead.
