You tell the mouth that you don't need it. You don't need to permanently disassociate from your humanity, and you don't need to give up having a body. You're powerful enough without taking that extra step. You can already change the world. You can already stop Thale. You can already extend you and your friends' life spans, and cure disease, and whatever else you set your mind to.

Sure, a stray bullet could take you out, but that's a risk you have to take for the sake of... well, being human.

Disconnecting means forgetting what it means to be human. It means putting a barrier between you and your friends. It means having no real stake in anything anymore, because "you" wouldn't be there. You'd be outside it, above it... and you're not. You're right there in the thick of it, where you need to be. Where you want to be. It's your world, too, and you want to live in it, experience it... not just reign over it as a force of nature.

You lean in, and give the big mouth a hug.

...And as you lean your weight into it, the mouth opens, throwing you off balance.

"No!," shouts your younger iteration.

You try to correct yourself, to no avail--you tumble forward, straight into the open maw

and into the dark.

Downward

downward

into the dark.

"Kind of awful, isn't it? Without the good parts attached to anchor us, the bad parts can get a little crazy."

You... slowly wake up. The floor is made of meat. You're in... a red? It feels, and looks, like the inside of Mom's ship. This might just be the aesthetic you associate with unnerving, foreign feelings--though you've gotten attached to Mom's red (and your own), your first few experiences with talking mouths and skin furniture kind of left an impression.

You look up to see who was speaking, and see...

you.

Because of course it is.

"I thought the mouth could be our hubris or something, at first, but I'm starting to think it's just fear. Like, "oh no we almost died, better get real weird about it" kind of fear. There's deeefinitely some fear-type stuff further in. I've just been hanging out in here, since... well. I'm just a nurse."

...Huh. So this you is... your almost healthy, semi-functioning adult you from right before everything went to hell.

"Yup yup," she replies. "I'm the human you we spent years trying to mature as, before we had to fight for our life."

She sounds... different. Did you really used to sound like that?

"Heck yeah we did," she replies with a smile. "I don't think you realize how much we've changed. A whole day of monsters trying to brutally murder you makes a biiig difference. What about you? Which one of us are you?"

You're... you, you thought. The... main you? You look just like you normally do, right?

The nurse arcs an eyebrow. "...If you say so. You do sound like regular, complete us, so you must be pretty important. Hopefully you're one of the uses that gets stuff done, because I am terrified. I'm all the mentality of someone who hasn't done any of this yet. I got nervous just doing my taxes."

You start to look around, but the nurse puts a hand on your arm. "Hey. Look... if you really are a significant part of us, or... a "main" us? If that's even a thing? I want you to know, as the old you... the you that was just going to live a normal life, be an adult, hold a job, all that... I'm happy we became you. I'm glad that when put in one life-or-death situation after another, that after achieving a ridiculous amount of power... you never forgot me. You never forgot who you were, what it was like to be human. Everybody's always like, "if I could go back in time and meet myself years ago..." well, that's me. ...And I think we're doing a good job."

She gives you a hug.

We just received a hug from ourself... Imma cry. We should definitely hug back.

Just dawned on me... this is the whole "Working through your issues" kinda thing we had to do in other mindscapes. If this is what we have to do to consolidate down (makes sense if this is what it requires that we've done it before), all we have to do is figure out how to get in our ghost-friend's mindscape and we can help her out of it (once we get out of our own, that is.)
Blue_Elite 13th Jun 2018, 8:51 PM edit delete reply
So, remember how it turns out we don't actually have to be inside someone but just associate with being inside someone for our powers to work? Well, as it turns out Faraday is EVERYWHERE inside Bunker E. Or to put it another way, we are already inside of Faraday as regular meat Mine. Once we get out of this mindscape and make that observation, we may be able to force sync Faraday or do whatever else we need to to get her back together because technically she's within our domain as the "inside god."

I still think absolute godhood might be somewhere in our future-- an incredibly distant future, after we've had plenty of time to live out a proper life in our human form. (It might be wise to create some kind of reflex to kick ourselves out of our body if our brain ever gets destroyed, if we can manage that, because premature godhood is probably better for our friends than us succumbing to oblivion would be; but that's a last-resort sort of thing.)

I'm glad past us approves so much. The way she speaks is kinda adorable and a little bit how I pictured Jane starting out. Definitely hug back!

Edit: And then rifle through the cabinets and check under the bed and such, of course. Hugs first, loot the room second!

Edit edit: Also, we might want to yell up to the big mouth that we *don't vore,* we've already been over this!

Maybe not disassociate from our body... but.. just be ready to rebuild it from scratch if need be?
Twyll 13th Jun 2018, 5:19 PM edit delete reply
I mean, the disassociating would be necessary in order to make rebuilding it possible. Otherwise we'd be too dead to rebuild :P Something to think about, but hopefully something we'll never need to use.

Sorta a backup trigger? A second "meat us" we are permanently synced with but not in any danger?
Swagner 13th Jun 2018, 10:58 PM edit delete reply

I dunno if rebuilding ourself is possible. Unless we're disassociated, there's no difference between "considering ourselves dead" and "actually being dead".

However, we could try setting up a blood portal inside of our skull so that our human brain rests outside of normal space, so as to make us more bulletproof. Or wrap the brain in blood portal to the same effect.

Well, if there's anything we would tell our past self... Maybe praise her for being the kind of person who steps up to the plate when things go wrong. For being the kind of person who'd go to lengths to help others in need. For deciding she'd go be a nurse in a lower-tier hospital despite having a fairly affluent home.

I agree with Gigafreak about praising our past self.

Return the hug.
Loot the place (I bet there is nothing or similar messages to earlier "Find yourself.")
Make sure there are no more "us" here
Hug again and look for an "exit"

Reciprocate hug, then check the mouth-drawer. Oh, and the bookshelf, both for any other Mines, and if those books are different than the ones in the previous room. I doubt they are any different, but hey, never hurts to check.
Gigafreak 13th Jun 2018, 5:31 PM edit delete reply
Previous room had one door, this one has two. Though the usual configuration is inverted: closet open and hallway closed.
Well, if nothing in this room ends up rudely eating us (or maybe that's just how a meat-mouth hugs?), then after we're done searching, we should check the closet door before the hallway door- if only because it's already open.
Blue_Elite 13th Jun 2018, 8:54 PM edit delete reply
Mom's red has never eaten or bit us. Mr. Meanscarey up there is just being a butt-mouth.
Skullrama 13th Jun 2018, 5:34 PM edit delete reply

Does that door open? See if the door opens.

Years ago is pushing things, don't ya think? It's been what, something between two and three months?
Blue_Elite 13th Jun 2018, 8:57 PM edit delete reply
"Holy shit," Fuse exclaims. "It feels like that was months ago."

Less than two months (including the 1 month time skip between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2) but it feels like it's been years. :P
Phyco 13th Jun 2018, 9:37 PM edit delete reply
I was counting the month spent in the red after getting injected with Save the Queen as well.

You can deny if you want to
You can die if you want to
You can leave your bod behind
Cause your soul's in a bod
And if its in a bod
Then it ain't no God of Mine

You realize of course, we'll probably meet up with a future version of ourselves. Possibly the one from the error room!

Anyways, we should use this time to consider the simple life of a human that is our goal of what life will become if we are successful in neutralizing our enemies.
Blue_Elite 13th Jun 2018, 9:17 PM edit delete reply
Maybe we'll get to meet the vent hermit side of us! If we do, we totally need to at least chat her up if not hug her!

"Golly, there sure are some fluffy kitties in this magazine."
Can confirm, we used to sound like that. Also we used to be blond-er?

Thank human-aspect!Mine, point out she's the reason we care and understand sympathy and emotion and all that good stuff gods lose because they're too wimpy to tolerate a little pain and suffering here and there. :P
Ask her if she's aware of any other aspects and THEN check everything/get our rummage on. Then it looks like it's time to go forward and onward to scarier things.
Caydenite 13th Jun 2018, 9:40 PM edit delete reply
Hug back so much. Then ask if they know anything about 'here' and any other 'us-s' around. Tell her you'r supposed to be 'Finding Yourself'.

hug back and check that thing on the right of the door

It looks like a processor made of bone, what is that?

Is that eye... a computer? But yes, hug back and thank your previous self for being a part of you. The compassionate side, it seems. Then check the room, the computer(?), the book, under the bed and in the cabinets.

Ask if there are any other versions of you around here, and what's through the doors if she knows. And also if there's a way to get back to that first room. I don't remember if we checked the closet there and we may need to reunite our selves at some point.
