As Dr. Finch drives you all down the road, you run the usual checks. You scan Grizwald for unnoticed bugs or tracers. You have him say 'Patton Thale' again, just to be sure. Dr. Finch takes a complicated path through side streets and alleys, just to make sure no one's following you. You use your rats in the tunnels to look out for monsters following beneath the street.

Everything is surprisingly clean.

"Musta had all his eggs in that basket," Caius remarks. "Thought that monster woulda fucked us up."

"It would have," Fuse says more somberly. "We prepped like it was the end of the world."

"It's true," Michelle agrees. "The meat walls, the cages, hackin' the cameras, the bone armor, our crazy guns, havin' the place scouted ahead o' time... and whatever the hell Blondie did to that thing under the church. We won that fight before it started, if we'd have gone in blind it would have sucked. A lot."

"Yeah," Fuse says with a nod. "I've seen what would've happened. Sucked a lot is putting it gently."

The mention of crazy guns does remind you of something: Michelle's aim. Seriously. Was that normal for her?

Michelle shrugs, and smiles. "I mean, my aim's pretty good. This weird alien arm's a looot steadier than my old one--like, I can keep it perfectly still, if I want. That, plus this scoped pistol... it is a hell of a pistol."

"My question," Dr. Finch begins, "is what do we plan to do now?"

"Whatever tha hell we want," Caius replies with a chuckle. "Hope's done, Prophet's dead, Mac and Ges switched teams, Thale an' Carpenter ain't friends no more... even tha hackers got busted. Who do we got left?"

"The big man himself," Michelle muses, "and what we did today's gotta have him holdin' up in his room."

"An' pissin' himself," Caius adds.

"As relieved as I am that another obstacle has left our path..." Dr. Finch states, "arrogance will do us no favors."

"Yeah," Fuse comments, "arrogance is how we've been kicking Thale's ass in the first place. He keeps thinking we can't, or won't, and then we do. We got him on the ropes, but we can't let our guard down yet."

"At any rate, I was thinking more the short term," Dr. Finch explains. "Where are we headed?"

Michelle turns to Grizwald. "You got anywhere we can take ya? We'd take ya back to the bunker, but..."

"Hell, that's probably more dangerous," Fuse says with a faint, cynical smile.

"Th'arcade's fine," Grizwald replies.

"Seriously?" Michelle arcs an eyebrow. "That a good idea? I guess you'd know, you went this long and only got caught 'cuz of Hope's church bein' rigged up..."

"And it was only rigged up because of me and Lydia," Fuse points out.

Grizwald nods. "I need booze. And a hat. And cleantex. Trus' me, don't seem like much but... Rockwell might as well be a fort. Thale ain't gettin' his grubby mitts on me there. ...Gotta call Lydia, too, let 'er know what she missed."

You do stop for pizzas and soda, getting some for Grizwald and Lydia, as well, before taking him to Rockwell Arcade.

Grizwald gives you all a nod. "Thank ya. ...All o' ya. I dunno what that idiot Hope was plannin', but it weren't nothin' good. Thale's been plannin' this shit fer generations, seems like... and me an' Lydia, we do our best to get tha word out, but it takes more 'an that. People don't wanna listen. People don't wanna think fer themselves. Don't wanna do nothin'. This city... it needs people like y'all. People that'll stand up an' get somethin' done. People that'll fight tha kinda evil Patton Thale's become. Y'all are savin' this city. ...Prob'ly savin' tha world, too."

He looks at you, specifically. "Ms. Ametsuchi. ...I knew you'd be somethin'. Soon as I heard how you'd reacted to Queen, I knew changes were comin'. I had high hopes, an' ya still blew 'em outta tha water--ya done things I'd've never dreamed of. Every nightmare I've ever had about them Lasker tapes... it was like that, but watchin' tha bad guys have tha nightmare instead o' me. Whatever yer plan is... I take comfort in knowin' Thale's gettin' what's comin' to 'em. ...Thank ya. Fer savin' me, fer... everything."

Right, so... now that Thale knows about blood portals, we should expect his next monster to be able to fly. Time to brainstorm anti-air options-- for both organic and mechanical foes, probably.
Twyll 6th Jun 2018, 10:15 PM edit delete reply
We could practice creating tentacles or pseudopods to extend from our portals and drag things inside them. As horrifying as that would look :P would be pretty effective I think, for situations when gravity won't do the trick.

We could also rim the portals and pseudopods with teeth/claws, so even if we can't drag one of Thale's monsters in there entirely, we could at least chomp it up a lot before it escapes the range of the portal.

aka make mouth portals. A small amount of blood turned into a portal can expand itself, nom something, and then shrink back into a drop. Which would make them proper portals to hell.

lets get Mine to practice this :D

Holy shit that sounds horrifying, but also BADASS! Let's do it! I agree with both the eldritch tentacles and the mouth portals. let's get FREAKY!!!

Since a blood puddle/portal connects to the red, we could make a flying ball of blood by forcing gas out of the piddle with a giant pair of lungs in the red. If the air is being pushed out on all sides it’ll force the puddle together into a ball. Push out more air on one side than the other to steer the ball.

Alternatively, if the red is endless and the gravity of objects in the red can effect the blood that makes up portals to the red, then we could just create a bunch of mass in the red and use the force of attraction between that mass and the blood of the portal to move it around.

How great would it be to have a glassy smooth floating red sphere that can expand or contract on demand.
Loki 6th Jun 2018, 11:11 PM edit delete reply
If we can levitate a needle full of our blood, or a ball of our own blood, then we should be able to levitate ourselves! Mine can fly!
pkrankow 7th Jun 2018, 7:22 AM edit delete reply
pkrankow
Yes!

We can fly! In principle there should be no issue since we can move small things via reactionless levitation, bigger things are just the same - more of it, and more of what it takes to move it. No issue.

We should be able to levitate our team too, but that might require more thought exercise.

Maybe a simple jump?

I again bring up my idea of giving Lumpy the blood gun. That could solve a flying problem remotely, with no potential casualties
Tobias23 7th Jun 2018, 7:03 AM edit delete reply
Mouth-portals, I like that. The best thing is: We already know how most of that would work. It's basically growing a meatwall / meatcage with teeth and tentacles. For extra effect, once the portal is open, we can spray some blood on our enemy and have the mouth grow up and extra mass grow down towards the mouth. And even FUSE with the mouth if we want to get extra freaky.

The blood-bubble sounds great as well. Would be a great way to just blood an entire room. Think about it: We get a bug in, make a 3x3m portal, push out a bubble of blood, pop it and fill the room with flesh, bone, tentacles, tentacles with bone blades, etc…

O boy. We are getting powerful, are we not?

I don't think we've ever hugged Grizwald.

Hug grizwald.

And ask him if he wants to be blooded. Even if he says no, let's replenish his old needle we used up, and ask Lydia the same thing.

Then, let's head back to the Error room.
Gigafreak 6th Jun 2018, 9:49 PM edit delete reply
I'm a little worried that Fuse's thing with the Error room will make him encounter his own dead body every time-- dead from a different thing with each visit. And... most of the value we can GET from the Error room requires Fuse present to make it show future versions of the visitors instead of alternate-present versions.
Skullrama 6th Jun 2018, 9:56 PM edit delete reply
Yes on hug Griz - gonna vote no on abusing the error room. I see things going badly.
Blue_Elite 6th Jun 2018, 11:34 PM edit delete reply
Yes, abusing the error room won't work because preventing one death may create another.
Also, it hurts Fuse's psyche a LOT and I'm kinda afraid he's already borderline PTSD as is.

I'm not saying to never use it again, but the uses should be few, far inbetween, and probably only in similar cases to where we'd ask The Tradesmen for advice.
PurpleKetchup 6th Jun 2018, 11:55 PM edit delete reply
Having a vial of our blood was essential to this whole church operation. It goes without saying we should give him a few so he can put them wherever he thinks he might need them in the future.

+1 for Blue_Elite.

And yes, offer Grizwald again to be blooded, just in case, and yes, offer him another vial of blood.

Also, once we make it back to the bunker, we should have Michelle see if she can repeat the recipe for making that pistol. If we can upgrade that scoped pistol by using a couple copies of it, that would be AWESOME.
Skullrama 6th Jun 2018, 9:57 PM edit delete reply
Scoped pistol was not a trade-up - we stole it from the corpse of Gesenai's hitman.

wasn't the gattling gun from a bunch of pistols? We should try another pistol trade with either fewer (probably better, so it won't hurt supplies as much) or more pistols.
Blue_Elite 6th Jun 2018, 11:37 PM edit delete reply
If we do another trade-up, I'd rather Cleantex and trade up the exact same pistols again to get a duplicate of Michelle's minigun. Then trade those up and see what we get.

Okay, so, when we get back, we're probably gonna wanna sleep, it's late. Buuuut when we have time, we should experiment with biological power armor.

We can make ourselves a fleshy mech suit - as long as we're in contact with it, we should be able to feel through it and control it as though it were our body, like the bandages when they're wrapped around our arm - no extra concentration needed.

We can have protection, super strength and big arms we can mod on the fly to have a drill, or shoot bone spears or whatever. This could be SUPER useful in Bunker X and... I also just really want us to make a bio-power armor, man.
LiquidBacon 6th Jun 2018, 10:40 PM edit delete reply

Skullrama 7th Jun 2018, 8:43 AM edit delete reply
I was originally thinking of something along the lines of the ride-armor in Megaman X, but it might be hard to get that through doors.

Had the thought that we may be able to compress it into a meat-backpack for travel through tighter spaces, then re-expand it around ourselves when needed. The practicality of this mostly comes down to how fast we can actually do that after practice. If it takes 10 minutes to suit back up, wr can't exactly react to danger.

We still need to find a way out for the people in the Mars Bunker, which might be easier now that Thale's presumably gone to ground.

We also need to do Experiment Odin to help the ghosts and potentially secure them as powerful allies.

Speaking of experiments, besides improving on blood powers there's the optic laser we got from Bunker X that we could fiddle with, as well as seeing if Pierce can refine the bone armor spell.
Cyanic 6th Jun 2018, 10:33 PM edit delete reply
A lot of people think what Griz said was a death flag, which would be improbable since this is an interactive comic, and not a regular story

BUT I will agree that we should escort Griz inside and look around to see if there are bugs or trackers, or whatever else, good to be safe.

When we get home, if it's not too late in the night, we can experiment bone stuff as suggested by Skullrama

It's possible we can create some sort of biological power armor for us, just encasing ourselves in bone, and having that bone have direct contact to our skin. That should work like the bandages, and enable us to feel through the bone because even though the bone's not blooded, it was created in our red which we can still control remotely, so if it's in contact with us, we should have better control

Also besides that, let's get some muscle tissue too, like thigh and calf muscles and encase ourselves in that, should work the same way as bone and might give us extra strength (like Muscular from MHA)
Gigafreak 7th Jun 2018, 12:43 AM edit delete reply
Hell, sometimes I wonder if Mine should just use her flesh-transmutation ability to increase her own actual personal muscle mass a little. So she can lift heavier things and/or better defend herself when desperate.

Considering how often she treats herself and the team to ice cream, she could also probably use her power to transmute fat to other things. Join Team Blood and become one of those frequently-envied people who can eat anything they want and never gain weight!

I think we're almost ready for floor 1 of Bunker X but I'd like two things before we make that attempt (and after getting all our other side quests done of course): a guard/attack golem (or at least see if we can make/trade one) and some sort of Nintendo power glove/gauntlet for Caius to protect his hands (we can try trading up a large variety or work gloves for various occupations).
Gigafreak 7th Jun 2018, 11:22 AM edit delete reply
I worry that "a lot of work gloves" will get something like a remote manipulalor tool. Like those claw-on-a-stick things people use to pick up litter. I think maybe we could try a big bundle of boxing gloves or brass knuckles (if the latter isn't illegal in this city. They're illegal in, for example, real-life New York). Or even... craft a bunch from bone and trade those.

Map the tunnels so the group doesn't need to travel aboveground on the streets, maybe. That'll take days though
Blue_Elite 7th Jun 2018, 12:03 AM edit delete reply
I'm going to throw out there actually working on Elizabeth for the rest of the night. We've kinda been neglecting her with all the Thale and ghost shenanigans going on. I think it'd be a nice way to be productive while mellowing out after leaning heavily into our eldritch side today already.

Also when we get a call/visit from Jury with an update about how her sting operation (is that the right term?) went, we should ask if we can get Grizwald's coat and hat back to deliver to him if possible.
Also suggest an idea to her: See if Jury can analyze the Rhetoric Delta program and figure out a way to prevent automatic overrides like that from happening (key to preventing her "report all magic" trigger response). Also offer to have Fuse work on it while understanding that because it'd basically be messing with her "brain" she might prefer to handle that task herself.

EDIT: Also, since everyone is concerned, we could place a blood alarm either on Grizwald (if he elects to be blooded) or on a blood syringe given to him to alert us if Grizwald is in trouble (more specifically something like an adrenaline rush on Grizwald or excessive shaking of a blood syringe).

I would like to add: Blood the doors. If we can control the portals or speed up hacking of the keypad, that's a significant bonus, but just being able to keep them closed in event of intrusion would be smart.

Might also be smart to do a quick check-in on the proto-juries.

Also, hugs all around.

We could focus on carpenter now, he seems to have been quiet for too long.
Also, Thale lost a battle, but he still controls a lot of people, and is very much still a threat. Getting rid him is still a high priority, preferably while he is licking his wounds.
We also have a pair of ghost girls we have promised to help, not to forget the family we keep hidden in the bunkers.
Anyone remember why they couldn't leave the city?

What about the super computer we traded up? Did Fuse ever get connected to that? (I belive that's why we got him the babelfish)

Personally I feel we should have a look on the "Bone armor ritual draft" since I noticed it increased muscle strength to compensate for weight.
If we can isolate that part of the ritual, we might be able to make a strength spell that anyone can use, without blondie intervention/ empowerment.
Blue_Elite 7th Jun 2018, 10:47 AM edit delete reply
The family couldn't leave the city because Thale has connections everywhere and being blooded is an immediate death sentence if found, even at the cost of one of Thale's thralls. Macland also stated Thale specifically has a network in place to watch who is going out of the city for that specific reason.
Thus we have two options available: Get them in the witness protection program through Jury and have them start a new life in Ilworth. The witness protection program would take time, paperwork, and would allow questionable life quality.
Ilworth would allow freedom but the place is in shambles right now. We were going to at least restore the power to the power plant but we have to get Faraday back to normal before we can use the Bunker E power supply. We were going to do Incident F to get Faraday back to normal but then all the Thale's monster/Hope's church shenanigans happened and everything got put on the backburner for that. So basically we're bottlenecked by the Incident F task which we anticipate will completely drain Jane and make her useless combat-wise for a full day.
So there's your recap.

The Fuse/supercomputer thing is recent. We got what we believe was necessary along with the pistol/minigun ammo before the Hope church mission. Fuse simply hasn't had the opportunity to try it out yet.

Blue_Elite 7th Jun 2018, 11:02 PM edit delete reply
Better late than never:
Jury looks into getting VISAs.
Jury determines the limits of her connections and part 2 (witness protection keeps the family in-country; we'd have to contact The Deck if we want credentials outside of our country).
Gigafreak 7th Jun 2018, 11:31 AM edit delete reply
What I'm thinking of is... basically similar to how Mine got Knox to stop moving. Get blood onto the target (maybe by literally filling a super soaker with it and hosing them down), blood-transmute it to heavy and sticky things like bones and fat and such, pull more material through that biomass to transmute into MORE weight, and just keep doing that until it's too heavy to stay airborne. Then portal it through the floor or something.

Alternatively, once the target is fully coated on one side with Mine's biomass, we can use the biomass itself as a poral.

Or we can see if weighted net launchers are a thing in this world. They always seem to be a thing in cartoons.

Once we get back to the bunker, we should probably ask Mom's Red if they can grow some teet around the bunker door, concealed behind the wall, so if anyone unauthorized (say, Carpenter or one of his goons) tries to enter the bunker, Mom's Red can CHOMP them. This might require an eyestalk so they can see like a security camera, but we can conceal that with one of those glass domes you put over security cameras so there isn't this obvious alien eye sitting there.

Ablaze 7th Jun 2018, 9:34 PM edit delete reply
We need to work on blood portals. I have a feeling the bunker won't be safe for much longer, but if we can blood portal anywhere, we could disarm the doors and use portals.

In the meantime, use meat walls to try blocking the doorway and see if the door would be allowed to connect if something is in the way. If not, then we can remote lockdown each bunker!
